hello everyone. i'll be in houston on business in early. our houston office is near memorial park and we're staying at the galleria. any advice on where to find good beer (and secondarily, good food)? i've never been to texas. especially interested in locals not available on the east coast, but general good craft beer is good too. sorry for one of these threads; i searched the forum and found nothing.

If you have transportation, Queen Vic is a great spot that is not terribly far from the Galleria. About 10 or so taps, English/Indian fusion food that you can't go wrong with. Also Pondicheri is close to Queen Vic, and they usually have about 6-8 taps of all Texas/Houston area beers, and great curry if you like a curry house. There are many threads on where to go in Houston, and tons more spots. I'll have to do some digging...
Here you go... http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/visiting-houston-recommendations.213780/#post-2804320 http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/good-beer-houston-your-side-of-towns-best-bars.92883/ http://www.beeradvocate.com/place/city/65/ Also, it is probably mentioned in the thread but Whole Foods in the Galleria has its own brewery and a very good beer bar.
WF Post Oak has Yellow Rose (local SMaSH IPA), Ballast Point Grunion, and Brash EZ-7 (new local super hoppy pale) on tap now...word of advice - Yellow Rose or Grunion first, then EZ-7 (will destroy your palate - all this hinges on if you like hoppy beers)
What stickies and FAQs are for friend. Don't like redundant threads? Can complain, or can ask todd to sticky your rec list....
if you are staying in the galleria and have access to a vehicle head to the Hay Merchant. Great food and awesome selection.
For a food focused stop, ramen night on Mondays & Tuesdays at Fat Bao are the best. Just across the street from queen vic. Bottles/cans only, but everything from Baird to Prairie to Karbach and saint arnolds. Edit: Also a food stop, bottle only. Alabama Icehouse and the Tacos Tierra Caliente truck. Grab some delish tacos or quesadillas from the truck and head back to the icehouse and grab a Grapefruit Sculpin or a variety of Karbach or St. Arnold brews
The Lengua tacos at Tierra Caliante are my favorite in Houston, well maybe a tie between the incredibly traditional barbacoa at Gerardo's Drive-in.
