Been a while since I posted on the BA forums, honestly between homebrewing and the fact my computer has pretty much given up on me I just dont find myself online much these days. Anyway, Im about to go to bed, on a table, in the middle of a beer store. Some of you may know me, most probably dont. I work at a bottle shop in Paris, despite living in Germany. I travel 3+ hours one way via train to work at the shop a couple times a month and sometimes I just end up sleeping on my thermarest on the table in the middle of the shop during closed hours to save on money for accomodations/simplicity of working hours. It goes without saying but I consider this shop my home away from home and that I do this for the love of craft beer; just wondering if anyone else out there goes out of their waylike this to be involved in the beer industry...
I work at a beer distributor in Pittsburgh, PA. I often come in on my off days to check whats new with the store and usually get some work done during this process. Yesterday was the first day in quite some time that i didnt bother going in. Considering i am not a manager of any kind and am just a regualr ranking employee, this is probably a bit unusual. But since i am the only employee that has any experience with craft beers i kind of feel the need to look after "My" section. It doesnt hurt that its only a half mile away either.
I do this frequently as well. Most of the time, if the reps are there, I will stop by to shoot the bull with them. Most of them, despite promoting none craft beer, are pretty big into craft beer which is nice.
B- For me visiting you in the last year was going out of my way Although I will be coming by less going forward I hope to visit next year. You are truly obsessed...in a good way! Cheers. Steve
What keeps you going to this bottle shop for your employment? Isn't there any opportunity for a similar position that is closer to your Germany home?
At the store I frequent, I've spent so much time there that I actually help the guy stock the shelves, and arrange the products nicely when I am visiting sometimes. It's one part boredom waiting around and checking the selection, two parts helping the guy out who is a class act and has blown his knee out from heavy lifting over the years.
Probably because the owner of the shop is a good friend of mine and a business partner in another project as well. I live in a small farm town and not in a beer region of Germany...
If I was young and had the opportunity and it was MY bliss, and could afford it money wise, I guess so. To be beer is just a beverage. Its one I love, but I do not worship it, like many seem to.
Yup, Im actually closer to a popular/famous wine region in Germany. There are of course a few brewpubs in the area and Ive grown to enjoy the hoppy-ish pils that are brewed in my region but its not like Im in Franconia or Bavaria...
really name them PLEASE, I love to add them to the list. We stay with a wine maker in the Mosel when we go to that area.. Love that place. not much beer around though.
Awesome! My wife and I eloped there and that brewing company has a special place in my heart since then. I'm still waiting for them to come further up the east coast to start distro here and definitely counting down until we get to go again. There really is no place on earth like Maui.
