I started drinking better beer shortly before I found this site which was a long time ago. I still didn't know much about it then but I learned a lot from beeradvocate.com. I learned a ton.

Brewing beer is by far the best way to learn about craft beer, IMO. So many think they understand craft beer, but they really only get a fraction of what its really about by just drinking beer and talking or reading about it. To experience how grains become wort, hops are used when and why and the advantages and disadvantages of the plethora of commercially available yeasts, helps create a true understanding of what craft beer is and isn't and what makes all of the various styles different.

Download and read the BJCP Styles App. You will learn more from that than almost anything else. It's important to know why a beer is considered good.

Also, just drink beer and start rating beer.
