I've accidentally run into a close vert of Abyss with a few recent trades. I have an 11, 13, and 14 and will be looking to acquire a 12.

But I have no clue what do with them all when I get it...lol

I am pretty new to trading and what not. Should I try them all side by side? Let them age more? Get another 14?

Please fill me in on the basics here. Take it easy on me. I am a noob

The idea is to drink them all side by side, so that you can distinctively taste what the changes are by 1 year, 2 years, etc of cellaring. The idea is to directly compare, instead of relying on memory.

So there are no "rules" - it's just something people do, so no need to worry about exact years or missing years, unless you care about that.

But you'll probably want to find some friends, unless you plan on drinking all that imperial stout by yourself in one sitting.

Yeah, get a buddy or two that will do the same thing with a different beer. Invite them over to share the beers you have. Hopefully they will return the favor on a different beer.

Or drink them consecutive nights, not ideal but it works.

I never even thought of this. Have people really done verticals by themselves? By the final year they would be too drunk to notice a difference, or remember it.

I like the idea of having someone ells come over and bring a vertical of some other beer. Great idea.

There is no right or wrong answer... If you do them side by side start newest and going backwards so you can taste the development each year

Most I've done is a 2011 followed by a 2012 Curmudgeon solo. It got hazy, but was manageable. I definitely wouldn't do three year's worth though.

Haha I definitely plan on having a buddy or two try these with me. By the end of the night things will still be hazy but not because I tried to dome an 11-14 Abyss vert by myself. Thanks for the input!

Do a 5 year vert of DFH120. Let me know how it goes... It may be a bit more hazy

Poorly. That most certainly wouldn't end well.
