I'm curious if how to create a Signature that shows up below our forum posts, like Todd and Jason both have. Thanks!

Right now, that's only for them. They have it turned off for the rest of the members. Personally, I hope it stays off.

You don't- only the bros have sigs.

What the others said: you can't. We also have no intentions of allowing them either due to the abuse that would no doubt occur.

I generally agree. However, since the white space is already there anyway, I'd be a fan of a limited signature. Something that allows people to add a couple beer-related items and even a link to a blog or whatnot.

I see, thanks. I asked because I do write for a few beer blogs and would like to post links to them in a signature format.

I think if they could limit them to text only, as in no images, things would be fine. A link to a cellar spreadsheet

A link to a twitter page would be alright, I think.

But I also think the signature would be abused if it was allowed.

Post your links in your profile, leave your forum posts signature-free. I'm with the Bros 100% on this one.

I'll just add that I see under "Preferences" that each of us can choose to show/hide people's signatures with their messages. So why not have an option to let us have signatures and let those who don't want to see them, hide them? Thanks!

As mentioned before, potential for abuse is there and it would certainly be abused. There are always some who push their luck and ruin it for the rest of us. There are multiple examples of this over the years. Not having signatures is just one less thing the Bro's have to babysit.

This is what happens when you allow sigs. I suppose it could be OK if it were text-only and limited to say 200 characters, but the moment you allow images you end up with a cluttered, ugly-as-fuck forum.

Oh yeah, try viewing that page on a phone or other slow connection. Those stupid 100k+ image files take forever to load and will chew through your data plan in a hurry.

if they allowed signatures on this forum... i could only imagine what would be written and the pictures posted in people's signatures... i personally think that custom sigs are useless and clutter forum threads... i say leave the sigs to the bros and leave the threads clean...

That is what happens when you frequent MMO forums...lol.

I assumed it was an MMO, but I've never heard of the game. I just googled something like "ugly signatures in forums" and that was one of the top results.

It would probably be closer to homebrew talk than some wiabu anime forum (^__^). But I do get your point. Text only and a short character limit would probably be the way to go. They actually might be nice given the fact that we no longer have location info on the forums and for the time being, trade info is inaccessible. Location and a link to wants/gots or something like that might be cool.

I fully realize that I won't win this discussion, but my final points are:

    1) The argument about clutter in the forum and slow page load times (especially on mobile devices) due to signatures is not valid since the forum itself allows photos/videos to be directly embedded in the discussion and you can't block those, so they're already there and affecting said page load. However, you do have the option to not show forum signatures, which won't slow down page loads if enabled.

    2) I propose that signatures be allowed in text only with a character limit (which also eliminates the need for the Bros. to "babysit," as previously mentioned), especially because of the point(s) above showing we no longer see location info in the forums and direct links to wants/gots, cellars, blogs and Twitter handles would be nice.

    3) It was completely reasonable for me to request the same feature that the Bros. are using.

The main thing I could see happening with sig's is the creation of permanent "ISO:FT" posts... imagine every single signature being

"FT: blah blah blah... BM me!"

At this time, we will not be allowing users to have signatures. Thanks.
