How do you folks handle your beer glassware?

I typically wash my beer glasses in the dishwasher, but I always rinse them really well by hand and dry them with a paper towel before using them. I'm just afraid of ruining the head or carbonation in a beer with leftover detergent and not getting the experience the brewer intended. I also rinse the glass well and dry it if I am going to be pouring a different brand/type of beer.

Is there a better way I should be doing it? Or can anybody recommend a good product I should be using to keep my glasses in top shape for drinking? I don't drink often and generally only use 1 or 2 glasses a week, so I have no problem with using a little bit on a glass and washing by hand each time I want to have a beer or two.

    Thanks!

Everybody has there own little method.. If I'm not lazy and didn't run them through dishwasher I have packets of "Beerclean" glass washing powder I use. Gives better lacing and better head retention. Standard soaps and detergents leave a film that causes issues. If you see bubbles stuck to wall of glass after pouring that means dirty glass. That's also my biggest issue when I go to a bar and see that. Drives me nuts!!!

The lack of lacing is what really gets me sometimes. Once in a while I will pour a beer and see no lacing at all, and question if my glass was truly clean or not, but other times I will pour a quality IPA after rinsing the same way and get super heavy lacing. I had a beer last week that had no lacing, head, or carbonation so I'm thinking it was capped wrong and had gone flat before it even got to me, but I hated to give it a review like that if the lack of head or lacing was my fault.

I see bartenders everywhere wiping glasses with towels. I try that at home and I get lint (even from the "microfiber" wipes) and still spots and it ain't like Cinderella.

I wash and dry them in the dishwasher. No lint, and clean as a whistle! Head retention, lacing, etc, don't seem to be affected, at least at my level of scrutiny which is, admittedly, light. I wet the inside of the glass with cold tap water before pouring to help control the foam. I tend to use one glass for a drinking session. When I refill - same beer or different - I simply rinse the glass with cold water. The only time I change glasses is when the beer style calls for it - I won't serve a DIPA in a Pilsner glass, for example, nor would I serve a Pilsner in a snifter. That said, I use a fluted glass for virtually everything when I'm drinking with other beer snobs (I mean legitimate beer snobs, not the wannabes who spawned a whole new topic of humor ).

My washing agenda is similar to bossfan23's except that I use a dishcloth for washing (clean, of course) and let my glasses air dry. I used to use a dishwasher but find this a more preferable method to clean my glassware.

Wash all mine by hand unless I forgot to rinse after use. Then I run it in the dishwasher.

I just don“t let anyone touch them except me, not the wife, nor mi friends. No one, and they survive and are obsessively clean every time :grinning:
