How do you use the "Gots" feature?

A quick scan of the FAQ turned up nothing on this, so I'm sorry if this has been brought up.

My initial thought is to Got everything I buy, but when it's gone, I don't technically "got" it anymore. I have been going through and un-doing my gots that I don't "got" anymore, but it feels weird. So how do you guys utilize this feature? Is this feature for cellar'ing/trading?

I don't find it useful and so don't use it at all.

My understanding is that "Gots" was introduced way back in the old days for those into trading so they could make public what they had to offer and "Wants" was for what they wanted to find. I don't need either because I don't do trading.

Similarly I don't use it to keep track of what I buy or have around for drinking or aging, That list is organized differently and stored on my computer.

Lots of people have "got" double sunshine, a beer that to my knowledge has not been brewed at all this year. Many of the people who "got" it have added it in the last few weeks. So, yeah......

My buddies and I use the "Gots" to track what I have available - we use that to request bottles be added to the fridge when we are coming over to drink beers and watch sports (that way folks can share in the beers they are interested in).

I guess that is kind of like trading but for sharing.

I have the same question. How do we "got"?

Go to the page in the database that show the beer and its reviews. Right above the picture and just below the name of the beer there is a box with commands and check boxes. Click the got box and you'll show on your profile stats as having gots. Click on that and you will see your list.

I see the boxes for Want & Got - where did the Had box go?

I use this feature only for stuff I have that I want to trade. If you only have one bottle and plan on drinking it then I personally would not add it to my Gots, unless you are just using Gots to keep track of what you have instead of a cellar list.

I don't trade beers (except to close friends), so I use the gots list as a running inventory of what I have at home. I find it useful to see what's in my fridge (without having to walk over to it or move around bottles/cans). If I'm having a few beers in a sitting, I also use it to determine the order of beers that I'll drink (starting with lighter style beers or those that are lower in alcohol content). I'll also sometimes refer to this when I'm shopping if I don't want to get a beer that I recently bought but haven't reviewed it yet.
