I had it last night for the first time and I'm so glad I have a 4 pack.

LOL. The southern tier of NY is far, far, far from a 'saturated market.' They're too far from NE for reasonable trips to Treehouse/Trillium/HF, etc. Grimm and Other Half cans and kegs don't get that far. Singlecut doesn't send much out that way. They don't get the Ohio stuff. Which breweries are saturating that market, exactly?

Let me save you the time: You're talking just to see yourself talk.

What is the longest you have aged Burton Baton? At the risk of sounding like a wise-guy: what is the rationale for aging an Imperial IPA?

    Cheers!

Maybe I am just talking to hear myself talk
But he is talking about world class, hyped up, super hard to trade for IPA's....in which this beer will never be. The rest of my jib jab was me just trying to nice.

It's a blend of an old ale and an iipa. I have had it at 2 years and it is great.

    Thank you for that input.

I have a bottle of Burton Baton that I basically ‘lost track of’. It was bottled on 11/21/13 (a thank you to DFH for using yellow ink for this dating).

The label lists: “This special ale is a two-thread blend of young and wood-age Imperial i.p.a.”

It also lists: “An oak-aged Imperial India Pale Ale”.

The ‘good news’ is that this beer should hopefully still be ‘good’ to drink.

    Cheers!

I actually prefer it with age, you should still like it.

How does anything get hyped? It starts with people spreading the word on sites like this all over the place.

Breweries watch this stuff and then slowly make it harder and harder to get. Before you know it, demand now hits a level all breweries want, people waiting in lines dying to try it. Then they can limit the release, limit purchases, up the price, etc. Now, it has to be delicious of course and match the hype. But pure gold if acheived!

Brewmaster Jack is definitely way under the radar IMO, they make some very good beers. Personally I'm fine with that though because I can buy it really easily.

Actually, probably not. They're pretty adamant about their current business model being successful. Many others in the area have rushed to package and are floundering or deep in debt as a result. I don't think they'll be packaging in the near future.

I had a 3+yr old BB on draft last year...and it was disgusting. Zero hop for sure, but I would have expected more sweetness than rancidity.
I just remember the cicerone getting mad at us because we thought it was sick.

Don't over think it. If a brew comes out and is really good people will start talking about it - telling their friends etc. Then it starts to get talk on sites like this one so more people go try it and it grows from there. If its crap it won't get the talk or the hype. There's so many good beers out there right now that quality is the only way a beer gets uber popular. Especially DIPA's. I just had Epiphany from Foundation in Maine, awesome brew, years ago I would have stated it was the best I'd had but today - its in a class of 5 or 6 other amazing beers. I will admit that there are some out there that scarcity is important to and affects their perception - IE - Unless a beer is super hard to get its not worthy - which of course is horse hockey to quote Sherman Potter. I'd put Double Jack up against any DIPA out there and it will hold its own, just to name one. Bottom line - its a great time to be a craft beer lover as competition is driving everything up - sadly, including the prices but hey - ya get what ya pay for. Cheers

I've had it up to 3.5 years old, I think I still have one more bottle from that batch.

Since the label says "ages with the best of 'em"
