I'm thinking about trying to trade for some. I've tried it once before at a bottle share, but I don't know the bottling date.

I remember the added peppers and cinnamon being quite subtle; overall very smooth and chocolatey. Are the spice flavours alot stronger when it's freshly bottled? Should I wait until the next release or should I trade now since I enjoyed the subtlety?

Or are the added spices always mild, and this is one of those stouts where those flavours die off quickly?

I've noticed mexican cake loses much of the spiciness with age but more chocolate notes seem to surface. I had one and about a year old and it was still a fantastic stout just not the kaleidascope of flavors as when it's fresh

I had 2014 Cake fresh on draft at Westbrook, a few weeks later bottled, and then again the first week of December and it was delicious every time. I don't think the peppers had fallen off at all but it was loaded with sweet chocolate.

I think you should be ok with the 14 cakes. But I did have a regular 2013 cake 7-8 months later after release and it was not good at all.

I had 13 & 14 on tap, right when 14 came out...very noticibale difference between the two...more cinnamon & pepper heat on 14, 13 was very subdued(far less heat), but more chocolate

Thanks for the input guys! Kind of what I expected, but great information nonetheless!

Also depends on your taste preference. I personally like more chocolate flavor and only subtle hints of the spices, so older bottles suit my palate more than fresh bottles.
