Have any of you guys opened a Bitches Brew from the first batch in 2010 recently? If so, how is it tasting? I checked out some Untappd reviews and some people have reported an infection. I have a bottle of that says "Bottled In: 2010 D" and I'd like to know if anyone's had some good experiences with it lately.

Five years is long enough for that style, drink it and find out.

I didn't know it was as easy as that. Thanks for the suggestion.

How is that beer in general? It's probably the shelf beer I'm most interested in that I've passed on the most. Like I see it everywhere, always wonder, and always choose 'nope'. Why? And why am I even posting this?

I had a 2010 bottle about a year ago that was definitely infected. It was kind of interesting in a sour-stout sort of way, but certainly a far cry from the experience of drinking it fresh. If you are going to drink it, I'd say drink it now before the infection further overwhelms the flavor.

It's been so long since I've had it, I don't quite recall the specifics, but I remember thinking the taste wasn't the best expression of the album, which can be quite tense and frantic at times. The beer was more of a smooth, mellow experience--much more suitable to being a Kind of Blue beer than Bitches Brew.

Thanks for your reply. I haven't stored mine in a temp-controlled environment, and given my luck, I guess I'd expect my bottle is infected too. I'm even contemplating on never opening it and keep it as breweriana.

I opened a 2011 two years ago and oxidation (wet paper flavor) was just starting to set in.

I recently cracked my 5 year vert and 2010 was defintally infected. Though not in a terrible way, it had the typical sour stout thing goin on. I enjoyed it

Honestly it's hard to say, I was pretty palate wrecked at the time. But I didn't find any of them overly oxidized but the adjuncts it's brewed with did fad with time. I'd really have to say I enjoyed the infected 2010 the most of all as well as others at the tasting.

That beer is amazing fresh. Not sure what you are trying to achieve by sitting on it for 5 years

I didn't intend to originally go 5 years with it but just kept putting off cracking them. But it was just for fun, me and my buddies had a great time with it and it was an educational

I drank a 2010 about six months ago. It was not infected. I wouldn't say it improved with age tho. Flavor were more muted, blah blah blah, typical stuff. As with almost any beer, it would be interesting to do a vert but I'm not sure age improves this beer at all, at least not five years of age.
