Right, lunch tomorrow at Vivant to confirm their status as an ongoing and excelling brewery. Anybody care to meet up there?

I honestly think it is smart for them to pull back distribution and keep more local. Even though they make awesome Belgium they are not the hyped style that gets the neck beards and truck chasers excited, which is fine. There will always be a market for belgians and wood/foeder aged sours but they are more of a niche market. I cant speak for broad leaf but is sounds like a good experimental outlet to make the more popular and hyped styles while maintaining true to their roots with quality belgians and sours at vivant. Th best of both worlds for them. Plus with smaller distribution can create a sense of rarity which again hypes up trade value and gets the neck beards drooling

thisx1000. Every state/market has a big"drink local" push that makes it difficult to find shelf space let alone be successful in new markets. 10years ago there were lots of markets with only mediocre options. Now, almost every state has not one but multiple highly acclaimed or sought after breweries. This makes distribution a big risk if you don't have the capital thus we are more and more breweries "selling out". I truly believe that in craft beer you almost have to push growth to become a Sierra Nevada, founders, ,etc. Or you have to stay small with a quality local market such as vivant, Transient, Speciation.

I went, I drank, and I ate. Then I talked to management.
I was told that they are committed to “buy local” so it made little sense to employ the 1 person that they parted with to push sales outside of Michigan. Both their breweries are doing well, and with Broadleaf focusing on non-European styles I suspect that they will cover all the bases necessary to stay viable for some time.
    For what it’s worth.
    Cheers!
