I've got a '13 Prop and am wondering if it's on the decline in any way right now or if it's still drinking nice and does it have some time before it starts to drop off.

I had it about a month ago, It's still very solid. Plenty of coconut still in there. Bourbon was less hot than it was fresh so it's overall still a great beer. I'd give it another 5 months before it starts to fall off.

Anybody have a recent taste of this? I've got a bottle I've just never got around to opening.

I had one that had VERY little coconut remaining about a month ago...pretty disappointed. But then I hear others talking about how it's still very full of coconut. Maybe I just got unlucky :slight_frown:

I had one three months after it was released, and there was barely any coconut. The one I had a couple weeks after the release was A+.

Prop 13 had lots of variation between bottles/kegs. Some had an overwhelming amount of coconut, while others (even fresh) had very little coconut flavor.

Word from the brewers was drink within 6 months, but the sooner the better.

Drink now. Doubtful it's getting any better.

Had a good bottle a couple weeks ago that still had plenty of coconut. That being said, fresh it was the best coconut beer I have ever had, so while it's still great there is less coconut and just not quite as good as fresh. My advice is drink now.

Not to go off tangent here but this topic has got me thinking. Which of the BC varients is best for cellaring? Props is harder to get but doesn't seem to benefit with age where as something like VR I hear is better candidate for against.

Regular is really the only one that cellars somewhat well. Some people like the berry variants with more age on them, since age tempers the berry and makes it less cough syrup like.

Vanilla is a pretty bad candidate for aging, unless you're in the camp that feels the new batch is too vanilla-forward. Neither version of Prop really stands out as a good cellar candidate.

Totally agree, Backyard is drinking great right now and might be my new favorite. Vanilla Rye was a little too sweet/extract when I first had it, but had a pour recently and it was quite enjoyable.

Agreed - Cherry Rye a few months back was unreal.

Had a 13 Prop last night, and it was fantastic, not too boozy with lots of delicious coconut.
