Can't seem to find any info, is there a general number that most breweries use for IPAs? I know stone has a chart and it's bottled 90 days before the enjoy by date. I just grabbed a 6 pack of fresh squeezed and it says enjoy by 6/7/14, this is quite a long time from now so this must have been bottled like last week (hoping).

Actually the best by date is related to the breweries bottling line. So for an IPA some breweries use a 3 mo. shelf life and others use a 5-6 mo. shelf life. So we have to wait for someone who knows the particulary brewery to chime in. But given that your best by date is more than 3 mos from now I'd guess at a 5-6 mo shelf life.

There is definitely no standard, it should be 3 months. It's up to the brewery though.

I have no idea what timeframe Deschutes uses for Fresh Squeezed.

There was mention of a relationship of best by durations and bottling lines. There is also a relationship between best by durations and desired revenues by breweries. As a point of example, Bell’s Brewery states that Two Hearted is ‘good’ for 6 months. I know that Bell’s has a ‘top of the line’ bottling line (plus Two Hearted is bottle conditioned) but this beer is not nearly as ‘good’ at 6 months as it is fresher (0-3 months old).

    Cheers!

It really depends on the style. A larger beer like a barleywine or impy stout doesn't really have an expiration date. IPAs are best fresh. Amber, pale ale, brown ale, etc are usually best within 90 days. I think there is a tab on this website about aging or when to consume beers. Generally, the lower the alcohol content, the lower the shelf life.

I actually picked up the same today (Fresh Squeezed IPA) with the same best by date and can attest to it being pretty tasty! Glad I took the chance on it. Did not have the same experience/success going by the best by date with their Hop Henge IPA unfortunately..

Nice. I was on my phone which is why I didn't go to the site and just copy and paste that. Site can be very useful in certain situations.

Most situations. It's a monumental and unthanked task. And it's strength only increases the more users add to it. Contact the keeper with any new information you find--It's just one guy and he takes all the help he can get.

Or drink it and when it becomes bad, IYO. Figure out that, man this beer is bad before or after best by date. Sometimes brewers lie on their best by dates. It only is in the eye of the beholder. Victory for chance. I love fresh Headwaters, but they give four months B.B.D. (Best By Date) on that beer and it becomes shit after two. That is IMO.
