Well, having smelled my share of domestic and import skunk -- animal and vegetable, it's my opinion that there isn't a big difference. Just me, but I haven't made a big study of strain or appellation. :grimacing::nauseated_face:

Not with so many brewers making their beers "Vegan-friendly".

Wait! Wait! Wasn't it one of you guys who said in another thread that there are no skunks in Europe? Wow! You just can't trust what you read on the internet.

    Weren't me.

    Billy boy, boy, boy?

Just looked up European Skunk and it looks like an odd species that may actually be extinct. Blame brewers.

    J'Acusse....!

I never said any such thing and I'm offended by your accusations.
But what about this guy? How do you explain this huh?

Mes excuses! I should have done proper research. However, I did find the culprit post just to let you know that I wasn't reporting a false truth. From the recent Cicerone thread:

And lightstruck is one of the simplest flaws to recreate. A topless case of Corona left in the California sun for anything over 15 minutes nails it. Did you know that Europeans don't refer to beer as skunky? I was surprised by that until...

...I then learned that there are no skunks in Europe.
    (Offending poster's name withheld.)

As to whether there are skunks in Europe, I'll leave that topic as an internet falsehood (if that's a fact :stuck_out_tongue:).

The info on the extinct species I found called it a "stink badger."

Lagers can last longer than most hoppy beers, but depends on the bottling and storage conditions as others have mentioned. Are the beers canned vs bottled in green, clear, or dark bottles? Are the bottles stored in a cold dark place, or sitting on a retail shelf under bright lights?
Agree, I much prefer the can vs bottle format. I'll drink them for about 6 months, much shorter and limited to 1-3 months if in green or clear bottles. Although many times lagers aren't dated so that is the roulette we play.

Agree, life is too short not to save up some money regardless of your financial status, and travel to Europe at least once and enjoy their great beers at the source and culture. I had the luck to go to Salisbury England for 3 days on business in 2009 but need to get back over there soon (Belgium, Scotland, Czech, Poland...doesn’t matter to me).

Yep I remember Haunch of Venison...what a great place. Had the mummy hand and Winston Churchill was there planning out the war...all that good stuff. Stayed at the Red Lion Inn....great hotel pub there as well.

Also, Can Conditioned and fruity beers of certain styles need special care, as they're more likely to explode under pressure.

The correct answer to this question is "not long". On the occasional purchase of a "lager", like most other beers before it probably won't last long .
