Due south here has them and I want to send to my buddy on the west coast, my concern is one going from cold to warm during shipping, and the fact that the crowler is filled from the tap and then the top put on. I know growlers don't last long and figured Crowlers would because they are sealed. Just curious

I believe Oskar Blues ( who initiated the crowler movement, and sold Due South their crowler machine http://blogs.westword.com/cafesocie..._to_other_breweries_for_canned_beer_to_go.php)... says it'll last 30 days easily and maybe longer... The BA Ten Fidy I had out of a crowler after 30 days was drinking quite well with minimal oxidation.. Hope that helps..

Hopefully they'll have it on draft.... it pops up from time to time in the taproom and around town.... depending on which barrel they used, it can be fantastic, one of the BEST BA stouts

I was told at CCB while filling one that they last just a little longer then growlers, around 2 weeks for IPAs. Obviously it will vary depending on style and I wouldn't worry about a month old stout crowler.

From what I've seen and heard both personally and from others they can be very unreliable. I received one that leaked and lost its carbonation (still tasted pretty good) and have heard from others the same thing. Didn't one of the FL breweries just suspend or terminate their crowlers due to these issues?

CCB just suspended offering growlers because they were having reported issues with their seamer. They have since gotten a new and improved seamer and are back in business. Maybe I'll just have to mail you one and you can report back?

that actually sounds like a great BIF idea, does anyone know how many breweries have crowler machines? First I ever heard was when due south got theirs from Oskar Blues

I'm not sure, but I know in FL alone we have CCB, Cycle & Due South.

I've heard of a few guys opening Crowlers up to 90 days out from fill with no issue (stouts of course). The cans are Co2 backfilled and then immediately capped so oxidation should be minimal. You are dealing with a tap fill though so carbonation will certainly decline over time. I'd say a week or two for hoppy brews and a month for the malty side is safe but it all comes down to how well it was filled.

If anyone wants to give their crowler a true test then post it to me in Spain, I´ll be very honest about it´s performance...
