About how many beers do you average sampling at a beer fest?
I think I usually try about a few dozen or so in 3-4 hrs time.

    How about you?

Last year's EBF? Around 30 before I stopped keeping track on Untappd.

This year's? Closer to half that, although I blame some of that on my six pours of Kane Sunday Brunch.

I usually pick out a few I want to savor and evaluate/enjoy. After that it is a free for all to tick off as many as I can.

Sample pours are usually 2oz here. I'd say I put away about 10 samples per hour. You do the math.

Here beer can only be served in third, half or full Imperial pint measures so it's a bit restrictive where there are several hundred casks! But to be truthful a third is the least you can drink to arrive at a fair assessment in any case.
I occasionally help out at a small festival, around 60 beers or so and try to sample those I haven't had before. This helps answer customers who ask what sort of beer it is. We do give tiny samples so they can try before they buy.But a 1 or 2 ounce tester is just playing at the job.

Marquis, you should visit Cambridge Beer Festival. They do 1/8ths. Makes it a bit more manageable!

How do they get round the law? Even when just a fixed entry fee is paid beer must be served as I mention because they are still selling beer. And arguments like "the fee is for XXX and the beer is a gift" don't wash with the authorities.

If I am diligent in pouring our anything I don't really like I can get to around 60 in a 4-5 hour fest. At the average fest i'm just over 40.

I like to try all of them, with some food after 5 or 6 samples, taste with knowledge (start with easy styles and then progressively move to the hardcore stuff). And I don´t finish samples of beer I don´t like to avoid getting drunk fast.

Depends on the size of the pour. I never count thought. I would guess around 10-15 per hour. So 40ish in the standard 4 hour fest.

My wife goes to the fests with me, and between her tokens and mine, we share each other's beers so that I get to taste double the number of beers that I paid for. It seems like the fests normally give 15 or 20 tokens per person, and we never use all of them if there are 20.

That's one of the three tenets I (strive to) adhere to in festival attendance: 1) eat well ahead of time; 2) dump the stuff I don't like; and 3) drink a taster glass of water at least between every other beer. I suspect usually end up trying about 30 beers per festival, plus/minus depending on size of pours.
