I do agree - a tour guide can make the experience or not. We ended up going on Labor Day so the brewery was not in production so it was quiet. Our tour guide was a younger guy with a beard who took his time and went through everything.

Mark - I liked Horseheads when we stopped by. Their Pumpkin Ale is up their in the top Pumpkin I have had. Hot-Jala-Heim had a good bite and the Brown Ale was smooth. When we went they just released the Doom's Day Ale but I didn't think it lived up to expectations.

I have been to a bunch, lost count. Cantillon was by far the best, my wife and I were the only visitors and there was only one employee there who was like 80 years old and didn speak any english. We did a self guided tour and were able to help our selves to samples. Amazing atmosphere and experience.

Those are the only actual breweries. The rest were brewpubs, which I guess still count. Comparing a brewpub to a brewery isn't quite fair though.

DFH was the best of the three I listed. I love Troegs though, because it's only about 30 mins or so from where I live.

22 - Like others here, I try to hit up at least one when I travel for business. Sadly, I travel to a lot of places where breweries are not.

I've been to about 20 scattered about the country, but some of my favorites were New England Brewing, Hill Farmstead, Three Floyds, Bell's, and Russian River. I'm also a big fan of the Firestone Barrelworks.

I love visiting breweries, probably going to take a trip to The Bruery soon

    Favorites:

Lakefront (Milwaukee) - did a brewery tour here with a big group for my bachelor party. You get a pint glass to keep and several tokens for some awesome brews while you are on the tour. After the tour you can hang out in the sweet beer garden that's right on the river. My sister in law went to a wedding reception here once and said it was one of the best she has been to.

Revolution (Chicago) - Beers and food (Bacon popcorn!) are amazing here. Attended a private event/brewery tour here upstairs and had a great time. They have an awesome guest tap list as well.

Tighthead (NW burbs of Chicago) - Taproom only but it's a cozy spot, the owner is really cool, he plays great music. Has board games and lots of menus to order food from nearby establishments. Plus it's 10 minutes from my house so that's a plus ;-)

Honorable mention: Goose Island Wrigleyville - Goose Nachos! best after Cubs game snack

I can recall 16 of them. Some of my favorites are: Hill Farmstead, Amherst Brewing Co, Surly, Otter Creek, and Wandering Star (because I work across the street and that earned points in my book)

I just started jotting down a list, came up with 70 or so pretty quick, counting brewpubs.
I'll have to put some more thought into this and confer with a couple of buddies over some hazy trips
that we've made. Wouldn't be surprised if I was approaching 100.

Samuel Adams- I liked this tour. The tour guides were very informative and the brewery itself is pretty cool.
Allagash- My favorite tour by far. The tour was great, their new taproom is awesome as well and the people were cool.
Newport Storm- Meh...7 bucks for a self guided balcony walk and 4 4 oz pours of whatever they had.
Jack's Abby- Tour was cool, small brewery. The tasting room is also small. The beer and the people there are what separates them from other breweries.

This summer I have plans to visit many more. HF, Alchemist, Portsmouth are all being planned at the moment. I'm sure I'll swing by some in RI and Mass, maybe even NEBCO in Conn.

I have no idea. I'll start posting them and then figure it out at the end. Most are in California, with a few out of state. I had to go through my untapped account to try and figure it out.

    The Bruery
    Tustin Brewing Co
    Bootleggers
    Noble Ale Works
    Newport Beach Brewing Co
    Anaheim Brewery
    Cismontane
    Steelhead Brewing Co
    Santa Barbara Brewing Co
    Beachwood BBQ
    Sequoia Brewing Co
    Stone
    Pizza Port
    Karl Strauss
    Skookum (Washington State)
    Diamond Knot (Washington State)
    Scuttlebutt (Washington State)
    McMenamins (Washington State)
Sin City Brewing Co (Las Vegas)

    19. damn. I thought I've been to more. I'll hit more or add to the list if and when I can.

Breweries: all lambic breweries & blenders except for Belle-Vue
Cantillon & 3F are always nice, Tilquin was also
Alvinne – absolutely wonderful // Struise – also absolutely wonderful // Fantome – nice place for an afternoon drink – didn’t see the actual “brewery”

Brew pubs: Brouwers aan de Grote Markt – absolutely dreadful // Brodies – wonderful, loved it // going to Pakhuis tomorrow, not expecting much // De Molen during Boreft & De Koninck during Modest

Not too many so far it seems. Alvinne & Struise take the cake.
