How many pubs are in Ireland?

About 7,000 or so, give or take?

 

So many smaller towns all with multiple bars, I’d guess upwards of 10 K, maybe 15. it’s a community gathering place as much as a waterhole I’d guess.

 

I'm not sure having 4 pubs within that distance would be a good thing for me. Way too easy.

 

Being a numbers person, I have to use some math logic to arrive at my guess:

Google says Ireland's population in 2017 was 4.784 million.
Assuming two-thirds of that population is of drinking age, that means that 3,191,928 could show up at a pub for a nice frothy beer.
Assuming half of those Irish folks don't drink (Really?!), that leaves 1,595,464 fun people.
Assuming a pub needs a base market of, oh let's say 200 regular imbibers to stay in business, that means that there must be 7,977 pubs. That's my guess.

 

I cheated and looked it up "Googled it".
I think the O.P. lives in an area with a higher than average amount of pubs.
