How many styles of beer do you normally keep on hand?

I usually keep about 2-3 around.
    Pilsner/lager for cheap drinking nights.
Some kind of IPA (my favorite).
    Something hearty like a stout/porter/barleywine
to sometimes finish off a night of quaffing.

    You?

I'm a big stout lover so I have a bunch on the shelf acquired over the last couple years. Right now I have 82 beers in my normal fridge. A few stouts for when I'm the mood. But the last few months I've been on a double IPA kick. So I have a ton of 077xx on hand, several pumpkins.

Not a big fan of pilsners or lagers. I'd rather spend that money towards more solid beers. I'm always reloading from the store a couple times a week though, there's always something new and interesting that seems to come out.

On hand, meaning in the refrigerator? Or counting cellar diving?

In the fridge, probably 4. Something hoppy (IPA, DIPA, IPL, IIPL), a lager or Hefe or something light (depends on the season), and something malty (stout, Belgian, wee heavy, et al). Then usually something random, like a sour, a pumpkin ale (this time of year), etc.

But hell, if I dive into the cellar, I've got anything that ages well - or at least doesn't need to be refrigerated - on hand.

I think it would be easier to list the styles I DON'T have on hand... (between the upstairs storage and my cellar.)

It really depends on who's been over. I always have some beers around that are unique. I always keep an abundance of everyday stuff like SNPA. I like wits, an amber, a good German lager and everyone will be happy. Here's a mathematical conundrum: How come the more beer I have on hand, the more is consumed, and everyone is always bringing good beer by?

I try to have at least one Flemish red; an IPA or a bitter; a stout or a porter; and usually a light and dark German lager.
