Actually I don't even see any doctor these days (unless I'm about to die of something or have a serious injury, etc.). I generally don't trust 'em, and I'm fortunate enough to be pretty healthy and can take care of myself just fine. I just know I've heard it said somewhere that two beers per day is a "safe" limit without posing health risks. But this is certainly not my view. I think that everyone has a different limit and that one has to discover on their own how much drinking they can handle.

Sure, but a med student is a bordering on being a doctor, but they're still not a doctor.

Considering alcoholism has a genetic link, you may want to brush up on the facts. Again, overconsumption is not the same as a disease. You put yourself at risk to think otherwise.

In books on the history of Swedish beer you find multiple accounts of how the standard drink for the Swedish peasant was water. Here's an interesting article from Zythophile on the subject. Additionally here is an article which deals with the issue from an agricultural/economical perspective.

2-4 beers nightly, always great craft beers, no watered down cheap beer. But every Wednesday we have a beer tasting starting at noon, and we will go through 7-10 great beers, in sampler glasses usually split 3 ways. Always different styles and sizes.

I'm aware of its genetic links. My consumption is very modest and if you knew me personally you'd know I won't make my fathers mistakes.

Typically no more than 1 a day. Trying to lose the college binge drinking weight.

If I drink 1-2 beers everyday, I get to be a fat fuck. I have maybe 1 during the week and a few on the weekend.

3-5 a day after work, while I'm doing dishes-
    prepping dinner-
    doing laundry-
    lifting weights-
    and walking the dog.
One more [tonights example is DH 90 Minute] as a night cap when I get a chance to log on and peruse one of my favorite websites.
Weekends are really not much different for me except for starting earlier when I can.

I try to only drink a beer one, maybe two weekdays a week...Friday and Saturday it is on! Although the older I get the more I find I only drink 3-4 beers and I'm good for bed! Always fun when I can get together with multiple friends and truly slay some brews! Hoping this Saturday will go that route!

not nearly enough, I will once a week if I'm lucky. Mainly because I'm a college student and don't have the funds. Plus, my school is in the middle of nowhere.

it used to be: sunday-wednesday: nothing. thursday-saturday: multiple beers a night.

now it's more here-and-there. Had two Faction Ipa's around lunch time, enjoying a Hoppin' Frog bomber tonight. Can't slug em' down anymore.

Though i wish I could. Just kidding.

    no but really.

    ok ok just kidding.

Average probably one bomber per night, depends if I have to wake up for work the next day. If not then 2 bombers max... If it's my weekend then 2-3 bombers/3-5 bottles or draft. I'm 21 so I'm pretty good about it, no hangover, balance it out with tons of water and vitamins, although the calories sneak up fast.

No, he's wrong (no offense to either of you). Alcoholism is defined by tolerance to alcohol consumption AND resultant dependence to alcohol (which carries the propensity for withdrawal) that negatively impacts one's health and personal/professional relationships. The amount one drinks is only part of the equation.

In the US, a "drink" is defined as:
    - 12 oz of beer (~5% ABV)
    - 5 oz of wine
    - 1.5 oz of 80-proof liquor (40% ABV)

When the media talks about "moderate drinking" and its benefits regarding cardiovascular disease, most people set some arbitrarily determined limit for themselves. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) defines "moderate drinking" as:
    - Men under age 65: No more than 2 "drinks" per day (14 "drinks" or less per week)
    - Women (and men age 65 and older): No more than 1 "drink" per day (7 "drinks" or less per week)

The studied health benefits of alcohol are replaced by its inherent toxic effects when one consistently binges. The NIAAA defines binge drinking as "5 or more drinks in one session" (in men under age 65; 4 or more, in all others).

The old adage of "everything in moderation" may prove to be true when talking about "healthy" alcohol consumption. Someone who regularly enjoys 5 or more "drinks" a day may not necessarily be an alcoholic, but they are definitely a binge drinker. And there is nothing "healthy" about binge drinking.

(Disclaimer: The preceding is nothing more than personal opinion based on facts and US health guidelines. In no way does the information above constitute medical advice.)

And yes...one 12-oz bottle of 15% ABV bourbon barrel stout is 3 "drinks".

Wait, you say we are wrong but what you cite states 5 or more binge drinking sessions consistently defines alcoholism.

Tolerance has nothing to do with alcoholism. Just because you've built a tolerance doesn't mean it's impact to your body is reduced.

    So, I think, your wrong.

I avg about 16-22 oz of craft beer, mostly high grav per day. I usually do stouts/barleywines as nightcaps during the week and sours over the weekend.
