My guess is that the OP meant stores, bars and breweries and in whatever manner it is purchased, not traded.
With that being said, this post needs to hang around for a year. When I buy beer, I use cash and credit so I don't have an accurate number right now and an estimation may scare me if and when I get an accurate number.

You might think that if a guy was a homebrewer, and he constantly had a five gallon keg or two of pretty darned good beer in the kegerator each month for roughly $35-50 each, that he wouldn't spend more than maybe $20 a month on commercial beers. But you would be wrong.

I'd say homebrewing costs me an average of $80 a month (though I do give away a lot of that beer) and I probably buy at least $10 a week worth of this or that old favorite or limited release. Whatever. If you want to play, you got to pay.

Yeah, this question comes up all the time and it's kind of meaningless. The much more interesting question is "what % of your annual income do you spend on beer?".

Theres a reason I dont like taking receipts from places. I always decline them at Total Wine, Sams, TJs, etc...

Just reminds me how much I actually spent. Dont like to think about it.

For most of us it is likely more than we should. But as long as you are contributing to your 401k / IRA, making mortgage / rent payments on time, eating healthy. etc. Then some of your remaining funds, might as well go to procuring some great beer ! Whether that amounts to spending X dollars or Y dollars, I don`t want to think too hard about it.

I tallied up my receipts for a few years just to see where all of my money was going. 3 years ago I spent just over $1600 on beer, including trips to the bar 1-2x/month. I think the year after that was in the $1200 range, mosly because I stopped going to the bar so much. Haven't done last year's yet, but once I factor in all the brewpubs/bottle shops my girlfriend and I visited on our trip out west I'm sure it won't be pretty.

Similarly to the question "How many woman have you slept with?" The number changes depending on who is asking.
If my wife asks it is a couple of hundred dollars a year. If you guys are asking, thousands.
In reality, the real number is something that I do not care to calculate or admit.

    $20-40/week * ~50 weeks/year = $1k-2k

I'd guess I only drink ~70% of them personally though.

just enough to get the job done and not a penny more.

by the way, if you were to ask that question where i spend much of my time, you are seriously risking a verbal beating.
