I just had a comment on my blogg complaining about the price of The Kernel India Pale Ale Citra, Amarillo. At a Stockholm bar, it is £ 7.10 for 300 ml.

OK, it is quite expensive, I'll agree with that.

But he also told that in England, you get an imperial pint of the same beer for just £ 2.50.

Are The Kernel beers that cheap in the UK, or is the anonymous writer just trolling me? Are 6.9 % AIPAs regularly sold in full pints anyway?

Specialist bottle shops in my area regularly sell The Kernel bottles for £3.25 - £3.75 and they're not pint sized. The Kernel beers appear on cask and they cost a LOT more than £2.50 per pint. You can buy higher abv beers in pints but they tend to be priced per half.

Actually I think the bottles normally are 330ml, and you'd be looking to pay £3-£4 in a shop here, but probably £7-£10 in a bar (for the bottle. bottles are always horrendously priced in bars). When I've seen it in tap it's been about £4 for half a pint of Pale Ale. Even more for the IPA. The tax would take a beer of that strength, even made with the cheapest ingredients (which the Kernel beers definitely are not) over £2.50 for a pint.

Perhaps he's thinking of prices direct from the brewery on saturdays and getting a bit mixed up?

    Ruds/any Londoners in the know?

Here is some photo evidence then
Kernel Citra, Ella & Centennial pale ale (5.4) £5.50 per pint

taken from Port Street Beer House's feed now they are not the cheapest place but they aren't (slightly) more than twice the price on Kernel

plus other UK Ba'ers can see what us Mancunian Ale-stranauts have to contend with price wise

will look for specific India Pale Ale Citra

This is the closest I could find (hey I'm busy relaxing today)
£6.00 a pint and I think they were in a generous mood that day

At the brewery it's £2.50-3 for 330ml of most of their beers. Table beer is cheaper and their imperial stout and double IPAs are more expensive.

Around London pubs it's £5-7 for a draft pint and just a little less for a 330ml bottle.

Decently priced bottles are worth it, The Kernel brew great beers.

Manchester prices. Oh dear, oh dear. How they've changed. Remember drinking many pints of Holt Bitter in 2000 at a mere £1.25 a pint.

Holt's was notoriously cheap (still is to an extent) when Boddies was £1 in most pubs Holts was 70p

as well this isn't a standard boozer
this is a high end specialist artisan ale place and the cask board as you can see means you can even get change
(just about) out of a fiver for a pint
