I went into a store today, its a good shop that seems to hold on to limited release for a pretty long time... Anyways they had a couple bottles of Black Butte 24 for about 25 bucks. I asked the guy there if that was correct considering the retail is usually like 13 bucks. He stood by the price explaining it was last years... Is one year of aging worth double the price of the beer? I went next door and got a bb25 for 12...

Buy 2 for that price and age one yourself. I like when stores age it for me then discount the price when the new years comes in :-)

That's a rip. I'd say if it was cellared for more time, say 3-4 years, it might be worth it .

Not without some verification, but this might be a new niche in the retail market for a seller willing to invest in a proper cellar and advertise aged beers. Cool idea generally but if the guy is just trying to move a shelf turd that has been sitting in a non controlled environment then no.

Bottle Craft in San Diego is starting to do this (at least considering it), then I assume they'd build the storage costs into the price. I've often thought its a great idea to diversify the product and fill a niche, but it's hard to trust the storage conditions unless you trust the shop owner.

A guy who owns the liquor store nearest me was selling Big Foot 11 and 12 singles for 3-4 bucks. I bought one of each. Even though I'd bet those old cases just sat somewhere.

Way too much a mark up IMO. I remember a store in NJ selling 4 year old bottles of DFH WWS for $10 or $11. Now that was worth it.

If it sat on the shelve since last year than thats a shitty practice
If he bought a case at a higher price from distro to put on the shelve next to 25 then i would understand a slightly higher price but 100% markup is a little insane.

Reminds me of the guy who marked Enjoy by up stating "Its a one off, worth more the older it gets..."
    HA!

I'm gonna throw up. In that case, I should have tried to sell the 7/4/13 I accidentally forgot about in my cupboard. I could have made some cash.
