If I don't have a styro or cardboard shipper I'll double box. Don't like bottles being "loose" in a box regardless of how much packing material is used.

With the shippers I always pad bottles so they fit snug in their respective compartments.

I have never double box. I work in the package industry. A double box does nothing to prevent breakage from shock and/or vibration. The correct ECT/strength of the cases needs to match the weight. For example, under 20 pounds ship in 32 ECT C Flute box and over 20 us a 44 ECT C flute or a Doublewall case.

What a double box does do very well, is mask sloshing sounds. Also, double walled boxes are the best bet, the ECT on quality ones is usually north of 50#'s

@pagriley Looks like you need to do the roof test again, only this time double box one and single box another, make sure you throw both with about the same velocity and see if there's any difference.

Can't - wife got the house in the divorce... Now I live on the 16th floor - probably a bit severe to test a package at terminal velocity :stuck_out_tongue::grinning:

Unless you happen to be the poor schmuck who walks underneath 2 seconds after I drop the box... :slight_frown::grimacing:

Died in a bomber accident? Hit by a bomber? I am sure there is a line here somewhere...

Usually only when I'm shipping beers that cannot be replaced under any circumstances.

If bottles, I am pretty sure I have always double boxed. My intention is to create a fairly free floating (as in concussion proof) life boat within a sea of packaging material. Plenty of bubble wrap around individual bottles and between bottles in the life boat as well. Hopefully my packing is looked upon as massive overkill. With cans I may have mailed in a single box fashion but I feel like have secured them very well. I have used plenty of bubble wrap on each individual can and between cans plus I have used lots of padded envelopes, newspaper or whatever in order to protect them from possible punctures by making sure there's a good 3 or 4 inches between the outer and the skin of the cans.
