Knew this response was coming. It was a joke, relax. I don't care if you want to pour your beer down the drain. If something is truly horrible, I'd pour it too. What has rubbed me the wrong way in the past is many of the posts where people come off like any beer that isn't up to their extravagant standards is undrinkable garbage. If someone is so picky that they end up routinely pouring beer down the drain (and I have seen those comments in many of these threads), maybe they don't really like beer as much as they think.

I can see your point. I drink most of my beer. I've only "drain poured" an entire bottle once (infected BCBBW) and most of my others are partial pours - don't like it, it's late, already drank too much, etc. And even if you are being tongue in cheek (which is kind of like trolling) there are plenty that echo those sentiments.

For me, if a beer is bad then a beer is bad. When your hobby is essentially an agricultural product, you run the risk of bad experiences, you know? Also, because I try to be as health conscious as possible, I don't want to waste the calories on something that sucks.

All that said, I'll usually give a beer about 6 or 7 ounces before I come to a decision - that's usually enough for my palate to acclimate, to think about the beer's intention, and to make some kind of determination on whether I enjoy it.

When the beer makes me shudder or cringe from tasting so bad and i eat literally everything so it takes alot for me to not like something.

Idc about slamming it. Ill pour it. Dont care about catching a buzz since i paid for it. Id rather actually not get drunk

It's a combination of I just buy too much more often than not and originally buying beer from certain stores that I now avoid. Sometimes the beer just sucks too or isn't for me, or it has off flavours I can't get over. Lots of new breweries trying to be creative that occasionally get it wrong or mess up. I give a beer three samples over 20-30 minuted before pouring, just to be sure.

Ultimately I won't choke down something I don't like, if I don't consider it drinkable it goes. I also reach out to breweries when it's their fault, sometimes I get replacements if it's available. It's the same at a fest, out of say 30 samples at least 2 get poured, occasionally more and sometimes less. Most beers cost less than a Starbucks, so financially I don't care about a drainpour unless it's a $10+ bottle, then it stings a little or a lot for the pricey ones.

I know I said I rarely drainpour, but I had to with a Cosmonaut last night. Made it 3/4 through, but there was this ashy thing happening that was reminiscent of when I once had to empty ashtrays at a job, and it grew larger as it warmed. Just couldn't go on. Really bummed, too, as I'd been looking forward to that beer.

I've had one or two like this, especially when it warms it gets way worse. Reminded me of a bad cigar experience way too much and I had to dump it. I think they simply overdid the darker malts.

Interesting coming from someone who said they 'drain poured' fresh Sixpoint Puff. I can definitely understand not liking Puff or DIPAs but not sure how you could consider fresh Puff 'REALLY undrinkable'.

I've never drain poured, but I have 4 Aunt Sally's from Lagunitas that I don't know what I'm going to do with. I've had and liked other dry hopped sours but this one I just can't do. Really surprising as I've never had a bad beer from them.

The only time I have ever drain poured a beer is if it was infected.

I DO like DIPA/IIPAs but Puff had
too much resin for me. My taste buds
    didn't care for it.

In 3 years I've drain poured 2 beers

one of them was a skunked Belgian IPA

one of them was Kentucky Bourbon Pumpkin (which was nasty)

I try to avoid that by doing a quick score check when I'm buying, and looking at bottling dates

Sometimes a beer is infected. That's about it.

I put never, but only when infected. Which has been like 2 times (Bourbon County Barleywine and Coffee this year). :slight_frown:

I've only drain poured about 6-7 times in my life (4-5 of those were badly soured infected beers). The other 1-2 times the beer just tasted so bad that I couldn't stomach slamming it.
