Sierra Nevada is my go-to, so their standard is top notch, other than Tumbler, so I really can't go wrong!

    tangentially related.........but.......
.....when in London and at a pub, you ask for their 'ordinary', and that means their flagship or whatever the main beer is. Not exactly flattering but it has a bit of a different meaning over there.

I got into this craft beer scene before all of these specialty IPAs, DIPAs, BBA stouts, etc. so I drank the 'standards' at my local brewery. I'll still order one of them every now and then for old times sake.

Lately I've been going back to the basics pretty much every time I drink. Mainly because I love beers like Dale's Pale Ale and Stone IPA and I just don't see a reason to try new more expensive beers I might not even like as much. I used to only buy beer I'd never had before but I guess the excitement of it has worn off a little bit.

I love trying new things, but I'm happiest when I find a beer that I would love to buy again. Many of a breweries year round standards have a place in my fridge. Pretty much anything that Great Divide makes, for example.

I usually always have some 80 acre, Boston Lager, or SNPA in the fridge for those nights I want a good brew without breaking the bank.

goose island honker's ale, anchor steam, sam adams boston lager, weinstephanner original, dogfish head 60 minute ipa,, sierra nevada pale ale and three philosopher's ommegang are still go to's for me if I'm stocking up or in a store with only a moderate selection .it's easy to apply the question to breweries that go heavy on a couple of beers and then come out with seasonal brews and limited editions like maybe sam adams, goose island and dogfish head but does say, six point in NY or north coast in cali make a "standard beer?"

Often. Because it is good. That's why it is the standard.

I always have Stone IPA, Racer 5, and Prima Pils in the fridge. Two Hearted, Alpha King, and Anti Hero are also fairly regular. The standard beers are standard for a reason.

When out at restaurants that only have Boston Lager or SNPA or something of the like I'll drink one.
For CCB I drink Jai Alai, Maduro, Helles Lager and Florida Cracker nearly every week.
Yesterday I did debate on grabbing a 6'er of SNPA, but went with a 12 pack of Session Lager from Full Sail instead, but I literally flipped a coin for the two.

I'll save the 'flagship beers' for a bar or restaurant with a less-extensive beer selection.

Like mentioned before, it's dependent on your locale. When I'm home in the UP, you can find Two-Hearted at nearly any bar/restaurant, which is a privilege I've come to appreciate when I'm in North Dakota.

I love to try any new beer that comes out, but I find myself going back to the standard brews from CCB. I can't complain one bit about some Jai Alai or Maduro.

I tend to drink those 'standard' brewery beers when I'm out at a place that claims to have a wide variety of craft brews when in reality is SN Pale Ale or Boston Lager. Better than drinking a BMC though.
