How often do you get half pours or flights?

Love half pours and I am glad they seem to be more commonplace in our area than they were a year or so ago. I usually like to have a little more variety if possible especially when there are higher ABV offerings.
Sometimes I'll have a full pour also, but it is nice to have more options depending on the situation.

I think it might be worthwhile to note that folks can say they have the right to get as many flights as they like for whatever reason they like them, and of course they do have that right. And we who are upset by that have equal rights to be upset, and of course we are.

We have Stewarts shops here that have cashiers that are also the ice cream servers, sometimes only one of them on duty. That person in front of a long line has the right to order six banana splits, and check whether any of his 150 lotto cards is a winner, and I have the right to be upset by that. Easy as that.

Of course you have the right. I understand being irritated when you just have a simple order, but the person in front of you wants to solve world hunger.

I was mostly referring to the comments some others were making, along the lines of "go f*** yourself if you order a flight". He has the right to say and feel that, but some people are a little too up tight, in my opinion.

Considering I'm the FU guy, it was mostly in reference to having like a 4-6 ppl group in front of you getting flights when there's a line. Or 4-6 people getting assorted samples deciding what they want when there's a line. It happened to me and my BIL a while ago and it really rubbed me the wrong way. But I know, I should have gotten there sooner to beat the flight people - it's entirely their right to get flights, just joking around.

All this talk about lines. I guess I just don't drink at places where ordering beers is like buying plywood at Home Depot.

Wow, the amount of people saying they never order flights of beer is hilarious. You're telling me you've never ordered a sample tray? Never had a 4oz pour at a beer fest? I'd rather sample 4 oz of beer and then order more, versus orders 16-20oz of beer I might not end up liking very much. If 4 oz isn't enough (1/3 of a standard can) for you to decide whether it's worth ordering a full pint or not, well then I don't even know what to say.

Flights are a great way to discover your next pint.

Hell yeah, if a place is too crowded and I can't get a seat I just walk right out.

The real solution with me, though, has been to just plan my trips around non peak hours.

The only time I ordered a flight was at the South Rim Wine and Beer Garage in Williams, Arizona, recommended in the appropriate regional forum here, where the taps were all local brews about which I didn't know a thing. The only one which now sticks out in my mind was the Scottish Ale, which was way too light for my liking (in the defense of it, the excellent printed tap list described it as such) and is what I would have ordered if only full pours was the sole option. The place was almost empty and the woman bartender pleasantly chatty so it was a good thing to do. I think I had a couple half pours of two brews I hadn't sampled and she recommended after that. It made for a good experience.

Some beer fests have lomg lines for beer. Ya know what would make those beer fests even better, and I'm sure you will agree? Serving flights in addition to the single four ounce pours, I am sure no one will mind except those few curmudgeons like me:wink:

Craft brew is made for half pours, IMHO.

Visiting London semi regularly, I enjoy the half pint. It is perfect to sample a few different things or the gf will have one while I enjoy a full pint and then move on to the next pub.

Flights are evil. Never have, never will. A few oz of a beer hardly does it justice and generally you get clashing styles that just do not mix. The same beer can taste entirely different depending on the order you have them.

I always get a flight when checking out a new brewery. It allows me to get a taste of multiple styles so I can judge whether or not I want to order a pint. Not many places around me do half pours, but I usually opt for them at bottle shops that offer them.

I agree......if it's busy and flights are offered then order one. If the place can't handle that then remove them from the menu during peak times.

I don't buy flights as the pours are too small to enjoy. I used to back in the day but never felt satisfied. I do remember getting four 8oz pours in a flight for less than two pints a few times.

I don't really go out any more but do stop at one place a few times a year. I always get a small pour(13oz I think it is) this lets me have two beers rather than one 20oz pour.

    Enjoy

If you 've NEVER had a beer flight, how do you know they are evil and bad?

I typically get one flight to get an idea of where the brewery excels at (trying various styles, usually), then order my pint. Or better yet, love 8/10oz pours when they are available.

I suppose I meant, have never liked them and never will. to say I have never HAD one wouldn't be true.

I get flights every time I visit a brewery. I love being able to try 4 different beers at the same equivalent as a pint (4-4oz pours). It really allows for more sampling of the entire offerings of a brewery.

Um? Half pints aren't immune to this. Neither are full pints. Perhaps you just enjoy some evil things more than others.

I love flights whenever available. I like the variety and not having to pick just one or two beers. If something jumps out at me from the flight, then I'll get a full pour. Or another flight, but with a repeat of the taster I particularly enjoyed.
