What is recommended? For me it's not the easiest piece of equipment to clean and I am sure there are some unwanted things hiding inside.

I've only replaced mine once because the first one ended up getting crushed under my propane tank once and the crimp never came out. I pretty much rinse mine every time right after I use it. When I clean my bottling bucket I let the OxiClean free drain out of the spigot and through the hose. I then rinse with clean water and put the whole thing in the sanitizer before draining it and letting it air dry. Never have had a sanitation issue.

I replace mine about every 6 months or so. Vinyl tubing is so cheap, why not replace it?

i really like the food grade silicone hoses. a little more expensive than the vinyl stuff, but so much easier to work with and clean.

How are they easier to clean? I mean, how do you clean your hoses and what have you noticed that's different?

You guys should use rifle cleaning kits, they make cleaning homebrew items much easier.

I've had the same one for 3 years now, 36 plus batches.

    Use, Rinse, Repeat.

No reason to replace it unless something is wrong with it.

i have bought so much of tubing over the years of all different lengths and ID.

now i just get the stuff by the roll and use what i need. if i can't find what i need, which is often because im disorganized, i'll just cut off $0.25 of new tube and be done with it.

really though, if you rinse the tube with hot water when you are done there isn't any reason you should need to change the tube very often, if ever.

    don't judge

On a serious note, I would never use my gun cleaning equipment out of fear of contaminating my tubing with the solvents and lube and not getting them out. Then complicate that with the abrasiveness of even the "soft" nylon brushes, well, softer than copper brushes that with probably scratch nicks into the inside of your tubing. Nope. I just rinse well and helicopter it, or shoot some co2 into it to help it dry faster. I'm more likely to use co2 if it is a longer tube.

I've heard a person or 2 say silicone is the way to go, but I haven't witnessed this first hand.

    Lol really??
I have a set dedicated to it that never touches gun oil/powder. I guess that's what I get for assuming people are smarter than that!

I just don't think it's a good idea. But feel free to keep doing it.

I shot small bore rifle in high school and had a specialty set of super soft cleaning supplies. Still stiffer than I'd use on plastic honebrewing equipment. Plus, you could probably buy 100' of tubing before you broke even on the gun cleaning supplies.

Why do you need to change your hose? I am using the same one from the very beginning, ~100 brews over 8 years. It gets cleaned with hot water after use and it looks fine.
