I was at a bar this weekend in the Great Lakes region and one of the managers claimed to have BCS Rare on tap. "One of only 15 kegs of rare made last year." I inquired further to make sure he or I weren't mistaken in thinking that he meant it was just rare as in scarce to find BCS in a keg. But no, he had a printout description of what BCS Rare, picture of the green labeled bottle in wood box, was at the bar that I was given to read. I found it pretty hard to believe that a bar would just have a keg of Rare hanging out for $8/pour without a massive crowd or keg kicking in all but 5 minutes.

I've never had Rare, but whatever I had tasted great. I had regular BCBS recently and my palate isn't that advanced, prob wouldn't be able to tell BCBS from Rare anyway. Got a pic of the keg, has a regular looking BCBS sticker on it with some numbers. Nothing denoting the word "Rare" anywhere.

You think this was simply an issue of a miscommunication or straight up fraud by the bar? Any chance I actually tried BCS Rare? Curious to hear what others have to say on this.

I thought it was next to impossible to find on tap, and that Goose was saving any kegs they do have for some of their own events. I've been to plenty of Bourbon County events since November, and have seen Rare in bottle but never on tap. I could be completely wrong, though, and who knows whether the bar you were at was telling the truth.

Only kegs I've seen or heard of were at Rare Day and FOBAB. Never at any GI location even. I highly doubt they sent it out to any bars or restaurants. If they did, the price to them would have been insanely, insanely high. They could not have sold it to you at $8 without taking a massive loss.

The label on the keg would say Rare Bourbon County Stout.

    Example of Prop keg label.

It would certainly have the word "Rare" on the label.

Pretty sure but not certain GI Clybourn had Rare on tap this past Black Friday, along with much of the rest of the '15 lineup. Other than that and Rare Day and FOBAB, as you mentioned, have not heard of or seen it on tap.

Thanks guys, was pretty sure it was regular bcbs. If anyone is in the Milwaukee area and wants to try bcbs being touted as Rare go to Café Centraal in Bayview. It's not listed on their menu anywhere, but they will give you a printout they Googled telling you all about 2015s rare.

FWIW the only time I saw BCBS Regular on tap they were charging $8 a drink, considering the price of Rare I'd have to think they'd be charging much, much more.

Lol. Reminds me of a place in SE Michigan that put out a tap list around Black Friday claiming it had prop. To be fair, though, whomever I talked to when I called immediately admitted it was a misprint.

When Goose Island came to Louisville, KY for their migration week event, they tapped a keg of Rare. That's the only time I've seen it on tap, and considering it was a Goose Island sponsored event, it would make sense that would be the only time you see it. They were giving out free samples of it in a snifter you got to keep. Pretty good deal.

Never seen Rare on tap in Chicago. At Rare Day, you could only get 1 pour of Rare and all other variants (2014 & 2015) were unlimited.

I think I had Rare on tap at Old Town Pour House, but it was like last February. It was $20 a pour.

Was that at their Super Bowl event? I didn't go, but I was pretty sure that was from bottle, not draft.

Hmmm. The Lowlands Group (of which Centraal is part) certainly knows beer well enough to NOT make that mistake. Strange.

The Rare kegs have a green label on them just like the bottle. I have seen a keg before, but never at a bar.

Only place I've ever seen it kegged was at FOBAB. Other events i've been to recently had it in bottles.
