I was wondering if anyone knows how to get better shipping rates with FedEx. I know if you sign up for an account you get a better rate and I've done this. This typically gets me 10% off. How can I get 25 to 50% off ? Once I had a issue with my account and a FedEx store employee let me use their account and it was 50% off the shipping cost! How can we get this much off shipping? Any suggestions or experience.

I don't think you can. Having a FedEx account is the cheapest way I've found to ship packages. If they allowed a huge discount to everyone, they wouldn't make any money. It's one of the only perks of working for them.

So true. I worked there for just over 5 years. I miss my shipping discount.

Hahaha...I was going to tell the OP to apply for a job at FedEx

Shipping to a business address is usually a little cheaper. If you trade partner has a business address where she/he can accept shipments, see if that works for him/her.

If we got 50% off shipping somehow, FedEx would find a way to raise prices 75%

Both good ideas! Even part time FedEx employees get the discount (plus benefits). I get almost all of my deliveries sent to my office. It's easier for me and saves my RTP's a buck or two.

Shipping to a buisness is cheaper than shipping to a residence, if that helps any

I have tried to utilize packing techniques that don't weight a lot. I recently sent 30 lbs of beer in a 34.0 lb package. It's well protected.
Hint: Bubble wrap, bubble packs, and styro peanuts are light. Cardboard and newspaper are heavy.

The only way to get cheaper rates is to piggyback onto an existing business account that ships a large volume of packages, or greatly increase the volume of packages you are sending. If you're spending enough per month on shipping fees to get a volume discount via fed ex, you're probably not all that worried about the $$.
