After talking to a friend of mine, he pointed me toward Craft beers. His first recommendation, Gulden Draak. I have never seen nor have I heard of this beer. I checked out my local liquor stores and no one has it. How does one go about getting their hands on unique beers? Is it common for liquor stores to custom order different brands? Is there a way to have them sent straight to you without paying an arm and a leg?

Go to a craft beer store. You should be able to find some here under stores: http://beeradvocate.com/beerfly/

Gulden Draak will be in the import section (not the Heineken/Guinness kind). After you find that ask the beer manager to recommend some good "intro" beers.

Ordering from stores out of state usually costs quite a bit when you add the shipping factor.
Best bet is trading, best case is trading in person to save the cost of the shipping. (Such as KBS release, etc)

Ah, I suppose travel farther. I live about an hour away from Indianapolis. I was just hoping to not have to travel that far.

Start off by finding a couple of good local shops that sell craft beer. Gulden Draak is a great Belgian ale that is readily available at many craft beer stores. Find a place in your area that sells mixed 6-packs, ask for some recommendations at the store of things that are unique and readily available, and get down to business. Enjoy, and cheers!

Go to Founders KBS release day at the brewery. I heard it's awesome!! Just make sure to get there a couple weeks before they open so to ensure you get it before it sells out :grinning:

There should be plenty of Three Floyds to be found in your local bottle shop in Indiana. I would start there. They have lots of great beers. Also, like everyone else said, talk to your local beer guy and get some recommendations. Try lots of styles and make up your own opinions instead of relying on other people's reviews to tell you what is good. It won't take long for you to find your favorite styles.
