As many of you may have heard, Trillium Brewing Co. has had to close for a while. I do not claim to know the circumstances surrounding this, but I do know that they are probably taking a hit financially as they still have expenses but no revenues from beer sales to offset these expenses.

I believe Trillium has reached out to the community via social media to encourage people to purchase merchandise from their online store in an effort to raise money to help keep things afloat during this hard time. I, too, want to help Trillium, but I have a different idea. I plan on buying several gift cards from Trillium to use to buy beer in the future once they are up and running again, and I encourage anyone else that can afford to do so to do the same. If you are located near the brewery, but can not afford to buy any gift cards at this time and still want to help Trillium please feel free to use this post to volunteer to mule for the people that do buy gift cards. I am not located anywhere near the brewery, but have already had several people volunteer to make purchases for me using my gift cards and then mail said purchases to me (I offered to provide the shipping label).

I am not affiliated with Trillium, hell I’ve never even been there, but I have had a few of their beers and quite enjoyed them. I also know that in a worst case scenario situation, some hard working Americans (I assume they are hard working Americans, I’ve never met any of them) will lose their jobs. If you want to help Trillium please purchase gift cards from their online store. Please also use this post to hook up with locals that may be able to help you purchase your beers later on when things are back up and running.

Also, I spoke with someone at Trillium today and they stated that in a worst case scenario situation they will make every effort to issue full refunds on gift cards purchased that can not be used to purchase beer.

I am not trying to spearhead a campaign to try to raise zillions of dollars for the brewery or anything like that; I just want to share my ideas with the beer community and ask for other suggestions as to how we can help a brewery during this hardship. If you have any other comments or ideas please feel free to post them here. I will be posting this to several different beer sites and to Facebook pages and twitters and what not; please feel free to share, retweet, upvote, like, etc. Please also feel free to let me know if I am late to the game and if a “save the Trillium” thing is already going on (I have done little to zero research on the matter). Thanks for looking and cheers!

TLDR: buy Trillium gift cards to use for beer later or volunteer to mule for future purchases of Trillium beer if you are near the brewery.

I will mule the shit out of them when they reopen, as I have been doing so for a while now.

I'm a huge fan of Trillium, and my office is a stone's throw from the brewery. I'm happy to mule if anyone needs it.

My empty growlers are waiting under my desk, begging to be refilled.

I love their beer, love their products, but am still very weary to send any money for products to a company who was forced to close down. I don't think for a second they might not deliver on what I buy, but what if they are forced to shut that down. I don't want to be chasing around a refund. Business is business (referencing their posts about buying product on the website)

Bought my gift card a couple of days ago. Can't wait until I can use it! Hopefully soon.

Voodoofish, very cool of you to promote this all the way from Kentucky...

Don't quote me on this because I read this in a news article online:

Trillium had to shutdown because their 2014 License was never approved, they are currently back and forth between hearings to see if the ABCC will allow them to use their 2014 license. Even if the ABCC says no they will have their 2015 license ready to go, hopefully learning from their mistake (or misfortune) so those giftcards will still be worth something maybe just not until 2015.

I really don't think the worst for Trillium and hope it turns out A OK. But I have seen people get stiffed before (other companies) so just being cautious. My guess is if they are in enough financial trouble after all of this gift cards and clothing/swag sales would not be even close to enough to fix that burden

They got 65 orders in on January 17th, and every single one went out the next day. It's on their social media pages...I imagine they will be fulfilling orders as fast as possible considering they can't do much else at the moment.

Voodoofish-- you are a cool dude w an apparent heart of gold. Thx for getting a Trillium post back up and running - I have felt really lonely and isolated the last few days since BA locked down the Trillium thread. In the current vacuum of information on the Trillium situation --- devotees (ok -- full blown addicts) like myself need a place to go. I know Mebully has become physically ill over the situation. Here's hoping this thread survives the night ...and weekend.

I think buying merch is a solid plan. Buying gift cards is totally at your own risk, as echo'd by others. I want them open, and i hope they're back soon. I need more Pot and Kettle. And I never did get in for Stonington(sp).

Yeah, perhaps a risk, but I love the brewery and want to support them. If a little fronted cash tides them over and helps keep them in business, then it's worth it. And if it doesn't work out (God forbid), it won't be the first time I spent $50 on beer and had nothing to show for it the next day... :-)

yes and if they with the best intentions can't issue refunds, they will have lost their shirts and anyone who bought a gift card will have lost a few bucks that they intended to spend on beer.

Please don't be cautious. Who cares if you get stiffed on a beer. We all don't want that to happen. It's christmas.

I'm broke, but glad to mule for anyone who purchases a trillium gift card anywhere.

So...you have no plans to donate, but no one else should worry about losing their money? Okay. (And, yes, I have purchased their merch.)

Can't squeeze water from a rock my friend. If I had the cash I would be spending it. Offering to mule for anyone who does have the cash is the best I can do at the moment.

Beer money is by definition disposable income (I hope). All I was saying is that losing some disposable income isn't a big deal. If you need to be careful, as the post I responded to suggested, why are you spending that money on beer to begin with?

As far as "donate" goes, nobody is asking for donations.

Will add more soon...but...very quickly, if the worst case scenario occurs and, for some crazy reason we are unable to obtain a license, we will refund every gift card. We have everyones contact information and will contact everyone if that scenario plays out. We don't have any indication that that is going to happen (or we wouldn't have gift cards for sale!). We arent the sort to spend money that isn't ours, either. We bootstrapped the brewery with everything we have and have not asked...and will not ask for charity. We are regrouping and working on a plan to get us over this hurdle and have been overwhelmed with all the messages of support. We'll be back soon! JC & Esther
