How to increase my conversion?

    Yeah so I think that dropping the hydrometer into the fermenter is a baaaaad idea. Here's my current brew. The krausen has dropped to the bottom but left a pretty thick layer of dirt over all the glass above the surface of the beer. There is no way I could get a reading if I dropped the hydrometer in there.

    That's exactally what mine looks like.... actually the krausen goes all the way to the top tho. So yeah, a hydrometer in the vessel would not be a good idea at all. How many bottle do you get out of your 1 gal batches, cause I currently get 6.

    I usually get ten 330ml bottles per batch.

    Request that your grain supplier double crush your grains. You are probably more likely to have this happen if you buy locally as opposed to a mass supplier like Midwest or NB. My efficiency jumped 15-20 points. Luckily I don't have any problems with stuck sparges but it is definitely on my mind every time.
