My package going out was supposed to be delivered last Friday. It went form an estimated delivery to N/A and has been that way a week. Emailed them and this is the response.

"Thank you for contacting FedEx. We regret any inconvenience you experienced as a result of this situation.

To help us follow up on this situation, please e-mail the following information to us:
    • The complete name and address of the shipper, for verification
    • Your telephone contact number
    • Package contents/detail/package description (manufacturer's name, model number, part number and/or package cost)
    • Packaging used (box, pouch and/or package dimensions)

Once we receive these shipment details, FedEx will initiate a trace and contact you as more information becomes available."

So, how should I respond in regards to contents?

Chances are the label fell off the box. They will likely need to match the contents with tracking requests so it doesn't look like you can lie. Worst case they will return the box to the you for "Improper alcohol shipment"...which you can basically put a new label on and ship again or use UPS. Good luck.

Exact thing happened to me today. Went to the local station and had to identify the contents as beer so they would release the box back to me since the label was accidentally removed before it went on its way to its destination. Instead of giving me the box back, the guy reprinted a label and shipped it off. I was surprised to say the least.

I have had similar issues and have never (knock on wood) had an issue with it being beer. UPS actually removed broken bottle, repackaged other bottles in a new box, refunded my shipping cost and sent me a letter explaining how to wrap and pack glass bottles for shipping.

Not sure if you print your own labels, but that is why I always attach an extra label.

^This. And it helps writing the tracking ID with a marker on the box too.

Contents are yeast samples or fermented vinegars.

Print labels at home, and completely cover with tape on top of box so it is impossible for it to get torn/ripped/lost. As a backup, print a second copy and place inside box, on top.

I did just about all that except putting a spare one in the box. For some reason I missed that step this time. They contacted me and said they had a scan of it being damaged. I got no further information despite asking what they mean by "it's been scanned damaged" and if it'll be shipped back to me or not. They are having me fill out a claim form for damaged package. Going to just state collectable bottles and cans and glassware and hope for the best. They've not been super helpful.

    Thanks for all the insight!

Had a similar issue with FedEx earlier this year and got the "your package has gone missing after arriving in Portland routine". I called my neighbor who is a FedEx employee and she looked up the package and provided me with a copy of the internal notes. The internal FedEx notes indicated the package was damaged, the driver suspected alcohol was in the package, opened it and "discarded" the contents. She strongly suggested that nothing would be gained in filing a claim or package track.

Hope this isn't the case for you but understand that the person on the phone and the messages on the website aren't exactly 100% transparent. A "missing package" sounds a lot better than "we threw away your box"...

That's where I'm leading, but I might as well file a claim and see what happens. If they say no, I'm not out anything. Hope for the best.
