I thought this would make an interesting discussion because I have been pissed off by this a few times. How do you tell a trader "No, Thanks"? I think it is sort of dick-move to negotiate and then just disappear without saying you have a better offer or that you are no longer interested. Perhaps a general discussion will help develop a protocol for a how to end trade discussions without an agreement.

Honesty is key. Just simply say I'm not interested anymore. Why beat around the bush. Some of us are adults.

    "No. Thanks. No. But.....thanks?"

Seems like the message is pretty clear without being a dick.

Good way - tell the person "no thanks, I'll have to pass", even explain why (optional but a good idea, you never know when they'll counter and meet your needs).

Mediocre way - make up an excuse, "got another trade lined up"

Bad way - string someone along, don't respond to BM's, try to bleed more beer from the other trader, etc.

It's always good to communicate, honesty is a plus, but communication is key.
