I thought this would make an interesting discussion because I have been pissed off by this a few times. How do you tell a trader "No, Thanks"? I think it is sort of dick-move to negotiate and then just disappear without saying you have a better offer or that you are no longer interested. Perhaps a general discussion will help develop a protocol for a how to end trade discussions without an agreement.
Honesty is key. Just simply say I'm not interested anymore. Why beat around the bush. Some of us are adults.
Good way - tell the person "no thanks, I'll have to pass", even explain why (optional but a good idea, you never know when they'll counter and meet your needs). Mediocre way - make up an excuse, "got another trade lined up" Bad way - string someone along, don't respond to BM's, try to bleed more beer from the other trader, etc. It's always good to communicate, honesty is a plus, but communication is key.
