How well do local beers hold up?

    Hi Guys

This will be my fifth visit to New England since 2016, but this time I'm planning something new. For the last years my beervacation were focus on visiting TH and bring back home as much as I could (I have also visited HF and Foam in VT, Sand City, OH, Interboro in NY, TH, Trillium in MA).

I'll be landing on January 31 at Logan's (14:40), going up to Portland for the night (maybe a small stop at Brewery Silvatucus, quick drink and some crowlers to go), trying to score some bottles at Barreled Souls, and any cans from Austin's, Derivative and hopefully to grab some Allagash Coolship.

The next day (Febrary 1st), going up to HF (ETA 11:00), grab some bottles and cans to go, have a pint. Get to Montpellier and Waterbury (have lunch) and then to Burlington (planning to visit Four Quarters and Foam)

Saturday (2nd) Breakfast at Burlington, going down to Equilibrium, Suarez and will be staying in NYC for the weekend (planning to visit Grimm, Evil Twin)

From Monday 4th to Wednesday 6th, I'll be staying in Richmond (The Veil, The Answer, Triple Crossing, maybe VÄsen Brewing).

For my last step of the trip (Thursday to Sunday) before I come back to Europe, I'll be at outside Providence, so hopefully could visit Long Live, Proclamation, Buttonwoods, Beer on Earth... Fox Farm and Notch before I get back to Logan's

My great concern is how the beers hold up. I do know that Veil's beer hold well (as far as I Know), but don't have any feedback from how the other beers hold (and planning to bring back between 1 1/2 and 2 cases + some bottles), so any insight will be more than appreciate. If any of you have any recommendation, don't hesitate to speak outloud ;-)

    Thanks

    Hi Cobosice -

I came here to recommend some stops along your journey, but you clearly don't need any help in that department.

If by "hold up," you mean how long will they last, I'd say all of the beers should be good for several weeks (some freshness zealot will crucify me for that) particularly with the cold weather (if it were summer, I'd recommend a cooler).

If you have time in NY, Other Half is worth checking out.

    Safe travels, and enjoy!

One thing I noticed here: Fox Farm is in Salem, CT and Notch is in Salem, MA. Maybe about 3 hours apart (guessing). If you'll be near Providence, Fox Farm in CT might work, but Notch is still pretty far.

And the beer (generally) will stay good, though I might stay away from any cans with fruit added.

    Enjoy!

Wow that’s some trip...but kind of an open ended question. How did the TH beers you brought back last year hold up? Any specific breweries beers you plan to bring back? How long do you plan to hold on to them?

The only issue you might have with any of the beers from your trip is crowlers from The Answer, definitely a requirement to keep them cold and they fall off quite quickly. Other than that you'll be fine, it's only a week.

Thanks. Fox Farm hopefully on Thursday (just before checking in) and Notch on Sunday, before going to the airport, that’s the idea

Back in Monson, I really think that they hold better than the in the new place. I was lucky enough to had Curiosity 27 and Very Green and they were outstanding.

Cans: The Veil, HF, Grimm, Fox Farm, Long Live, Equilibrium. Highly possible: Definitive, Austin, The Answer, Triple Crossing. Bonus Track: Carton Coffee variants, Counterweight or Troon (last one would be really difficult to grab)

Holding up: Between 45-60 days since the caning day

    Thanks

I can tell you the Double IPAs from Long Live stand up well...I have a single IPA around a month or so old from them to enjoy this weekend, will let you know how it goes.

You should be good my man. People get a little too obsessed with the freshness thing. I d say all those beers are fine 4-6 weeks no problem. Also, im glad youre making the time for Fox Farm. Our state tends to get forgotten, but Fox Farm is a special place...

If I were you, Id try and hit tilted barn while you're in Rhode Island. Easily beats out long live/proclamation for me.

While Tilted Barn is very good I wouldn't replace it with any other breweries on tap for RI/CT besides Beer On Earth. Also, if time is a factor and the OP wants beer to go, TB can be a time suck. While you can get a pour while waiting, you are also outside and the first/second week of February could be quite hairy weather-wise (we don't have Spain's winters here).

To get back to the subject, I had a Long Live Beerworks Space Case just over a month old last night and it held up fine. This was a 6% IPA and quite delicate compared to their usual more robust IPAs, so if this one tastes fresh than any others should be good!

Sounds like an amazing trip. Anything in cans should be fine, growlers and crowlers will not travel well (as mentioned).

Two recommendations. 1.Since you’re staying in Burlington, keep your eyes peeled for Frost brewing. Delicious and pretty common to find in shops. 2. Try Bissell Brothers in Portland if you haven’t already (I’m guessing you have).

The winkie might suggest maybe not so much love (?). Fuck him if that's the case, I hope his trip sucks. (actually, no I don't, that's a very well thought out itinerary, can't go wrong with that. Have fun @Cobosice !)

I’be been to BB in 2016 and had tried Frost the same year (back in the days they weren’t canning, but I may give them a try)

My aim for this trip is to visit breweries I have never had the opportunity visit. The only brewery I’ve visited in all of my trips is HF

    Thanks for the advice

I’ve started to follow the league when the Bill&Brady era started, so I’m a huge fan

How long can be TB playing, I’m guessing we’got TB for at least 4 years more!

    Thanks

You've got a great list of breweries to visit and everyone has a favorite that they'll add to it. You mention going to Allagash for Coolship so you might want to check out Oxbow which is also in Portland. They do a lot of farmhouse and spontaneously fermented beers. Just a cool little place to visit and Duckfat has a little place there as well to grab some snacks. Oxbow is not near Allagash but you'll probably find even more breweries around Allagash than you remember. Have a great trip. Everyone else in the country hates the Patriots so its always nice to hear someone say "Go Pats!"

Just my opinion - I think Tilted Barn is a waste of time unless you get lucky with a short line. Proclamation, Buttonwoods and Long Live are all fairly close and rarely have big lines. Beers are just as good for the most part.

    Quick question

What do you think of Lone Pine Brewery?¡?
    Who brew the best non-lactose stouts/porters?¡? (Maine/Vermont/RI)

    Thanks for ur info
