I guess Ocean City MD didn’t require that, it was slammed and very few masks. Wearing a mask on the beach is ridiculous though.

Don’t know really, but if the governor posts a requirement and people don’t comply you get a ticket like NY was doing. They were selective though,it’s ridiculous to give a homeless man a $1000 ticket, but for most people this would be a deterrent. It can’t hurt to wear a mask, and I agree I also err to caution. Why not?

With my luck I’ll run into someone who’s a bald vegetarian and owns a bidet.

Too bad “responsible” and “drinking” don’t always go hand in hand.

There’s tons of photos and videos of things like this all around the country. I think many places went straight from Phase 1 to Phase 4.

Except 25-50% of people could be asymptomatic. You could have it and not know it. You don’t wear your mask, you could infect another person. What if that person is an essential employee somewhere? And they see hundreds of people a day at a convenience or grocery store.

They then get it and spread it to anyone going into that store. Not everyone who’s vulnerable can stay inside, sometimes they may have to go out for essential items.

I get why people don’t want to be forced to wear a mask, but it’s not like we don’t already have rules that people have to follow, and do follow. I have to wear a seat belt, obey the speed limit, and can’t text or drink and drive.

Didn’t the world just shut down because of one?

This is a once in a century event for the US. I would never say never.

And trust, me I get both sides of the argument. That we should shelter in place indefinitely, and the other side, that we should stop wearing masks and just go out.

I just keep myself as informed as possible (for both work and for myself) and go by the data I have at hand.

Unless I’m wearing an N95 mask I can breathe in your imaginary germs.

In my city they aren’t handing out tickets left and right, that’s not their goal. They’ll ask you to wear one, and if you say you don’t have one, they’ll give you one. And THEN if you still refuse you get a $300 ticket.

Plus court costs I’m sure, so it over $400 for not complying. The non medical masks aren’t a hassle at all, the N95 are though they’re hot and it’s hard to breathe. But I still wear it.

There's copious articles on this, but the TLDR version is that there is no real point in showing actual facts (such as the dangers of spreading while asymptomatic) any more than explaining carbon dating to a "young earther." Alternatively, try convincing a Penn State/Duke/etc fan not to root for "their team."
Not wearing masks, Qanon, vaccine truthers, birthers.... It's all coming from the same primal part of our psyche. Making order of a complex world. Fulfilling a desire to belong, while simultaneously creating an other. Resistance to the idea of being wrong.
Suffice it to say it shouldn't be falling on partisan lines, with liberals trusting in public health experts and conservatives concerned about "freedom" (with as I've said, nary a word about voter suppression going on in conservative states). But it does.
Thankfully, it seems like most bar and brewery owners by me take the whole thing seriously, and I think will continue to do their best as cases decline to ensure the safety of their staff and customers.

The way I see it there are two scenarios,

    1) A slow and careful transition back to pre-pandemic life as we new it.

    2) A slow and careful transition forward to a society that views social spacing as the new normal.

As mentioned above, the service industries in general depend on a certain level of customer volume to (make the nut) be profitable. If the volume drops, prices have no where to go but up.

I see bars and restaurants in this area adding outdoor table service, canopies are popping up.
Take-out places are adding outdoor tables.

If scenario #2 playes out, the big changes will likely be more noticeable when winter comes.

    I'm hoping for scenario #1.
Cheers and stay alert and safe.

The term Karen has been retired and replaced with Amy over the holiday weekend. Permit Patty, Cornerstone Caroline and Barbecue Becky have also been retired and replaced by Amy.

Meanwhile Becky, not to be confused with Barbecue Becky, remains in the game and is now playing second base. Please update your references and scorecard accordingly.
