It is. If you don't like those, you're probably not going to like most of their other stuff. It's more of an aromatic hoppiness rather than a bitterness, so I enjoy the balance with the lactose sweetness. My biggest problem with the lactose IPA thing has been gas and bloating.

@ScottKramer @Lupin Thanks for the confirmation. Considering this place has people lined up before the sun is even up, I'm not at all upset that I don't "get it".

This sums it up exactly. Both beers had that green almost floral taste that I did not enjoy with the sourness and the creaminess from the lactose. It was much more noticeable in the version with Galaxy.

I still haven’t been to HVB, but planning to some time this spring/summer. The ones I’ve tried on tap in NYC have ranged from solid to very good.

Totally anecdotally, a good friend and his wife went there this weekend. I’d describe him as a “casual” beer nerd (ie he knows the local NYC players and stuff distro’d to NYC, but that’s the extent). He’s a big sours guy. His wife is a big fan of the NEIPA (eg I gave her some OH citra daydream a couple weeks ago and she loved it). They didn’t really enjoy anything they had up there. So maybe for some people who prefer one or the other these don’t hit the spot

Someone handed me a crowler of a "sour IPA with cardamom" (Multichorus) at a share about four months ago and I almost didn't try it, but it blew my damn mind. No one else was having much so I kept going back. It either works for you or it doesn't!

I'm not 100% sure if Incandenza is specifically the base that they use for all of their sour IPAs, but they basically brew a bunch of different base beers that they then blend together to create a finished product. So for their Sour IPAs they take some of their acid beer which is their lacto fermented beer and then blend it into a batch of IPA. https://oct.co/essays/hudson-valley-brewery-its-not-about-brewing

@Xerlic if you like more traditional sours I would keep an eye out for their BA Sours which have all ranged from very good to incredible in my experience. I have yet to have any of their cans of their Sour IPAs but their BA sours are good enough that they are easily my favorite new brewery.

This actually describes my wife and I very well. I love hoppy beers, but I don't go out of my way to drink sours. Whenever I go to Equilibrium, I always pick her up a crowler of TABA and rarely drink any of it. If I see a new Grimm sour, I'll pour myself a taster and she'll drink the rest of the bomber. On the other hand, my wife hates the taste of hops. I've given her 0 IBU NEIPAs and she doesn't like them. I guess it shouldn't be surprising that neither of us like something that's supposed to be a cross between the two.

wrong brewery thread. the recurring theme of this one is that HVB hates locals.

I haven’t had Incandenza, but I will say that Hudson’s sour IPAs are not like the sour IPAs I’ve had elsewhere. Most sour IPAs I’ve had are much more sour than the tinge of sour you get from most HVB sours. I like HVB but I also like more traditionally acidic sours. The bottle from Saturday was excellent. My mom thought it was Hill Farmstead when she tasted it blind.

Seems like you have a real gripe. Seen this negative line of online commenting from you a few times in both the HV and EQ groups here on BA which leads me to believe you have been possibly banned from both the FB fan groups. You obviously go to the releases... if your so butt-hurt about it why dont you just walk up to one of them and call them out instead of hiding behind your keyboard.

lol @ people itt who compare drinking at 4AM in a parking lot to a party full of cheerleaders, and acting as if such an "activity" even requires an invite. really hammering home cakehouse's point that some of those people - specifically the types cakehouse mentioned - are insufferable and egomaniacal.

I haven't been to a can release at HVB, but have been to the brewery three times. The fact that you can pretty much get crowlers of 4 different beers to go is good enough for me. They're all awesome, and I don't have to wait in any lines or get there 6am. Not about that #linelyfe

Being called a jealous teenager by a bunch of grown men who get wasted in a parking lot isn't really an insult. This is the exact stupidity you children post on Facebook. Of course I'm going to do what makes me happy, but when I have to spend 3 hours in an unnecessary line just to get a beer that a couple losers camped out for, that annoys me. What don't you get about the fact that your actions affect other people?

I don't care that you get wasted in a parking lot, I care that you feel the need to line up, waste peoples time and provide misinformation to people who want to try this breweries beer. You and your friends are going to ruin this for everyone. Why the breweries coddle your stupidity is beyond me...

I had planned on taking the train up for this release but when I woke up at 6am and was told by a friend that there were already a couple hundred people in line, I went back to bed. Its not that I thought I would miss out on beer (despite what the facebook group says) Its that I didn't want to make the 2 hour trek to spend another 5 hours waiting in line.

Sure, its nice that once you get your wristband I can explore the town, though I'm not sure what else there is to do in Beacon other than grab some donuts or more beer... I guess I know now that I can try and roll in around 1 and hope something is left. Does it really take 2-3 hours to get through the line?

Anyway, I had a glass of Ultrasphere here in the city on Sunday instead and it was really great. The bartender described it as "liquid nerds" which is pretty spot on. I hope they keep canning it.

Yes I have a gripe with entitled children who ruin nice things for other people because they have nothing better to do with their time. I've never been to EQ, I think i made that point already, and I'm certainly not banned from Facebook groups. The projection from you guys is nuts, calling someone a "butt-hurt" keyboard warrior while doing exactly that. What kind of intelligent conversations do you think is to be had from someone who's been drinking in a parking lot for hours and uses the word "butt-hurt"?

@cakehouse Even if you walk up to them and call them out, you'll still have to face "The Chuggernaut" in a boss battle, so I'd tread carefully.

Off-topic, but I have to point out that the memes in the BA threads for EQ and HVB are 100x funnier than any joke that gets repeated on the EQ FB group, home to the least original humor on the internet.
