Don't confuse "friend" with a merchant who practices good business and benefits from the hype of having a crowd hours before they open their doors. Saturday morning lines translate into more overall business. I had a high school teacher who would say people should go through life with 3-4 actual friends.

This thread is too much. If you like getting up early on a Saturday to enjoy some comradery with likeminded people you should, but to argue about how people spend their free time on a beer forum, pro or con seems to be the real waste of time.

HEY! There are plenty of us who lurk most threads, waiting for the right moment to throw in a useless, pithy comment. No need to be rude.

After this whole Sand City debacle I feel like there should be some self reflection from the line culture people on how their behavior impacts breweries because this is proof that it can ruin a good thing for everyone.

Fair enough. I guess what I see allot of here is people judging other people for exactly that... how they are spending their free time. So I figured I would challenge that idea a bit. I'm fairly certain that anyone here that sees themselves or people they know being ridiculed for something so trifle as this would have the same response. Either way I'm sure I'll eventually meet up with a few of you in line and I'll introduce to those disrupting the peace so to speak.

@cakehouse you criticized the hell out of EQ on the EQ thread (the lines, how the business is run, etc.) and then admitted you've never even gone to EQ. Have you ever even gone to Hudson Valley or are you just sitting at home disgruntled because of the way you think its run from what you see online? I see you browsing all the bottle shop threads here, maybe you just need to stick to going to your local beer shop and not worry about anywhere that involves getting beer and waiting in line. There's nothing wrong with that you know and Grimm is much easier to get now than it was a year ago.

Ive never seen a bunch of grown men get so bent out of shape by legitimate criticism. I said EQ should pay you for doing work for them and that upsets you?? I agreed with others that they should pay an artist and was given some lame excuse about how opening a new brewery is incredibly expensive (duh) yet they just bought another building. Must be real hard times.

My criticism was never an attack on the brewery, its meant to be constructive. But look at the way you act, as if ive insulted your family!? They make some of the best beer in the country, I have no gripe with the brewery, just the drunks who attack people for making comments.

The two breweries that have been bombarded by this ridiculousness, EV and Hudson Valley, have no need for a line. We get it, youd rather spend your friday nights/saturday mornings drinking on a street corner with your bros than with your wife and kids. What you don't realize is that your actions sour other peoples experience. Not only do you brush of (and ban) others criticism online, you also give people asking for your help misinformation.

Getting drunk in a parking lot is not "culture", no matter how many sweaters, t-shirts, youtube videos and overpriced glassware you pedal to try and make it so.

I don't know what this is all about, I asked 1 question in my comment, have you ever even gone to Hudson Valley? You repeated everything you've already said many times over and over but didn't answer the only question I had. I just want to know if your complaints about Hudson Valley are legit, meaning you went there, because you never went to EQ and have similar complaints.

Do we really need to stand on line at each and every brewery to credibly say that waiting on line for hours just to get beer sucks? It sucks at Other Half and I imagine it sucks just as much at HVB and EQ.

If you've never been then you dont know. I've been in all three lines starting with OH from the beginning and Eq has the best experience BY FAR! HVB is very similier but nothing beats Eq. If you dont believe me just come and check it out its a no brainer really. Hope to see you there.

Is it the best experience because there is no need to stand in line, you just grab your beer and go? Cause I'm just not interested in hanging around for hours to get beer, I only do it once in a blue moon if I really really want something.

If socializing is not your thing then coming Sunday and picking up crowlers would be your best. For those that want the social interaction Eq by far is the best. If you dont want to hang out and partake in the bottle share, free food, and socializing with friends while playing games like cornhole and things like tasting rare beers as well unreleased bottles from the Brewery you can grab a ticket and come back when the brewery opens and get your cans. Unfortunately they are still small a brewery yet and don't have the distro to put cans at your local packy for your convenience.

    Hope this helps.

I just wonder how one can start drinking 10% stouts and IPAs at 4am and still be feeling good enough at noon or so to take advantage of a Saturday, much less drive home? is the day past noon just a wash for them and friends/family?

    stomachs of steel, maybe.

I'll rephrase it to accurately represent what you are asking- "Do you really have to experience something yourself before coming on line and publicly criticizing it?" Answer- YES!!!!!

I hate lining up for beer, it sucks and I try and avoid it as much as I can. Brisket allotments and bottle shares will not change that. More power to you if this is what you guys like but I already know its not something I'm interested in experiencing.

Lol... partially yes. We dont really start drinking at 4am... unless it's coffee and bagels. Most people get there early because they want to get their beer first so they DO have the rest of the day, Saturday, to do whatever... after a nap that is. Also, in the case of Eq as well HV, we have food, breakfast sandwiches etc...very early in the a.m. for free for early shows . Also most, and I know this sounds like BS, dont really drink... more like taste and only what I really am interested in, only talking from my experience here. In essence those that know better hold small 3oz plastic tasting cups of which only a small amount is poured in. If I dont like the taste.. i dump it simple. The idea that 300 people are driving away after full on drinking bottle upon bottle and 16oz beers for hours is fake news. Misinformation at its best.

I would be soooo happy if I never had to hear that phrase ever again. Assuming people who start a bottle share at 8am are drinking is not “fake news”. Don’t downplay others concern for people drinking and driving based on your personal experience.
