Any help would be appreciated here! I'm trying to organize a (surprise) beer tour for my husband's birthday. We live just over the border in Ridgefield, CT and I've hired a limo for 10 of us so driving isn't an issue. He's from Newburgh and I've arranged to have a tour at Newburgh Brewery at 5:30pm, figure we'll finish the day there. But I'd like to stop at a couple of others prior to that. I don't really want to go much farther north than Newburgh, been there done that. But I know there's quite a few down in Westchester but I don't know anything about them, like Captain Lawrence, Defiant, and Ramapo. Suggestions? Any to avoid? Must do? Thanks!!!

I would highly recommend Peekskill Brewery; it's a brewpub that is producing some outstanding beer. Their food is also good, so you might consider having lunch there or hitting it up for dinner after Newburgh. Captain Lawrence is also certainly worth the trip. Rushing Duck is also in Chester, which isn't too far from Newburgh or Peekskill. If it were my trip, I'd go from Peekskill, to Rushing Duck, to Newburgh.

    What 'jcarbaugh' said. Spot on.

Though, Crossroads is also worth a visit. Their Outrage IPA is legit.

Rushing Duck is only open Saturday IIRC. Crossroads is far north of Newburgh.

I would start at Capt. Lawrence, then hit Peekskill, then take Rt. 9 N. and stop at The Hop in Beacon for a Rushing Duck brew on tap, and cross the river to end at Newburgh Brewery. I know it's four stops, but Rushing Duck beer is delicious, and The Hop is a nice place and exactly on the way.

I'd do the Peekskill/Rushing Duck/Newburg loop. Makes the best sense time and travelwise.

From Ridgefield, you'd run 35 west into NY state and straight out to Peekskill for lunch.
From there, and easy ride along Rte 6 (via the goat trail, the Bear Mtn bridge, up the PIP & over the mountain) to Rushing Duck in Chester.
And then up 17 to 84 east to Newburgh.

Ooh! What is that restaurant called in Peekskill? The Birdsall House? Consider stopping in for lunch. They have a good local beer menu.
