Call me crazy but I prefer Abraxas over Huna and Mexi Cake...just one of those things I guess. Spanish Mole style beers were all the rage for a while there but have sort of worn thin for me with interest.

I will say that Mexican Coffee Cake was tasty.

Rum Black Tuesday was a boozy mess.. Just like all of their other big stouts... When I first started drinking stouts their booze bombs were intriguing to me due to their high abv.. But, now after having so many, they need to tame them down just a bit and they'd be so much better. 11-15% is the sweetspot for big stouts... Anything much higher than that needs about 3-5 years to sit just to be drinkable

Yeah, agreed. When I was firsting starting out in beer, they were cool just because of the appeal of reserve society, high ABV, and years ago, hard to get. Now they are just all over the map. I won't deny I still really enjoy Chocolate Rain however we agree, jacking up an ABV is more of a gimmick to me. 11-15% is money.

Imperial Biscotti Break. Total waste of time and money.

Maine Beer Co.'s Lunch (haven't had the chance to have Dinner yet) places high for me but i guess it's not exactly that rare. Also most of Terrapin's special releases. Their marketing team does a great job, I'll say that much.

I have to agree with the "money" portion. Evil Twin price point is out of control.

As much as I love side project. Derivation 2 (The Vanilla) didnt blow me away. It was very good but nothing mind blowing.

Some of the Avery barrel aged sours where not nearly as good as everyone made them out to be. I loved the Tequila aged Fortuna Gose. But, some of the others were just a big waste of money.

Also, The whole planet series from Bells -_-

Agreed on both accounts. I was excited to try Lunch - what a huge let down. Dinner on the other hand, was AMAZING at 5 days old.

It was a ways back but it's Zombie Dust for me, had to trade for it to try it and yeah, it was a good but lots of places seem to have a good citra pale/ipa. I wonder how many people trade for it again, a local brewery 15 mins away has beer so similar and convenient to get, I know ZD isnt worth it for me.

The latest batch of Bullfrog Grrrz beers were such a let down. After having 2 of the batch 1 beers I was very excited and gave up a lot of beer to score a couple of 2015 release. We had Kriek (B2), Aardbei, and Apricot. All of them were just off and not enjoyable at all.

By the way: FT: Le Roar Grrrz Berry

Jester Kings Montmorency vs. Balaton. Drove 1.5 hours and waited in line 40 minutes and so wasn't worth it to me. Sours just aren't my thing at all.

Oddly enough, I heard the same thing. I heard the balance was really off. On the flip side, I have heard nothing but praise for B1 (Maple)....any insight on that one?

Yes. Got the chance to try it at MWBBF. It is phenominal. Way different from other maple stouts ive had. This one much much oakier and smokier. It had just the perfect touch of maple sweetness but it didnt dominate the beer, in my book A+

I may catch hell for this, but my biggest disappointment was Bourbon County Vanilla Rye. I really tried to like this, but found it to be way too sweet for my palate and had trouble finishing a 5 oz pour. I wouldn't turn down a chance to try it again, but definitely won't be hunting for it.

    Curious...bottle or draft?

I find the draft to be no where near as tasty as the bottle.

After getting back into craft after a hiatus, I've had a few let downs this year. The big three for me were KBS (Definitely not what it used to be. Not worth the effort, to me.), Mexican Cake (Too chili forward for me. It seemed to overpower the other flavors.), and Imperial Biscotti Break (Something about it just seemed"off" to me.).

On the bright side, Ozark's BDCS, Ballast Point's Victory At Sea, Anthem's Pappy Burleson, and Prairie's Apple Brandy Noir definitely made up for them.
