I agree. I never tried Nelson but Duet was so-so.

Stone IRS. I love Stone. I love Russian Imperial Stouts. Combine the 2...meh. Really wanted to love this beer. Have tried it 3-4 times thinking "this will be the time". Never thought it was more than decent.

Hopslam, all the hype, the leaving the office early, the price...never again.

Stone IRS is another one! Although I always pick up their brews with a slight reservation...

I have to say Brooklyn Sorachi Ace, but I'm suspicious that I had a bad bottle. It tasted so off that I'd like to try it again...

I don't know if I'd call it a disappointment because I still think it's a great beer, but Rochefort 10 was definitely a letdown. So much hype and a really high price-point had me convinced it would be the greatest thing ever made.

Another one is Hercule Stout. I still maintain it's possible I had a bad bottle but it was essentially flat, diet soda that gave me a buzz.

I've never been truly disappointed in a beer.

Sure, I've maybe regretted the cost of some, but its something we all do as craft lovers. Periodically shelling out for an overpriced bomber here and there, giant bottleshop run here and there. It is what it is.

At least the money is going into an economy that I am proud to support.

Always check the dates on Two Hearted. The hops drop off quickly. Like 4 weeks old quickly.

Hopslam and Chocolate Rain. I've also struggled to find something from Avery that I have really enjoyed to the point where I'd get it again.

I know it's not the point of this thread, but I tried Duet and Hoppy Birthday with high expectations and loved both.

Alpine brewmaster is overseeing the brewing of his beers at Green Flash. I did a side by side on Duet at a bottle shop in Cincinnati a bomber brewed at Alpine and draft brewed at GF and the only noticeable difference was the nose both were outstanding. Silva stout however has some brewery acknowledged diacetyl issues so there are some valid complaints there.

Have to agree on the Hopslam, but CR is easily one of my favorites. A little surprised on your Avery comment considering the high ratings you gave several of their BA series (e.g. Tweak, Uncle Jacobs and Rumpkin).

I got to try Alpine Nelson at Ciity Beer Store in SF last year and it was outstanding. A few weeks ago I was surprised to see Alpine Duet on tap at Yardhouse in Fresno, but here it was rather disappointing. I'm wondering if the Nelson keg was actually brewed by Alpine and the Duet was brewed by Green Flash. I know there have been some complaints about GF brewed stuff just not being the same.

The Alpine/GF issue is well-known. Spend some time over in the Alpine thread in the Pacific forum.

As far as I can tell they're just labeling their West Coast IPA as Duet and/or Nelson.

I would have to agree with you as well. I poured into a small tulip glass and I didn't even finish that. Good thing my nephew was around he finished the rest of my glass as well as the bottle.

Also, I always buy my Duet and Nelson directly from the brewery up in Alpine. That's just my take. I can also taste the difference between bottled at Alpine and the bottles from GF.
