Only had one bottle of Pliny(love Blind Pig though) and one can of Heady so ..... but I think the hype didn't help these two

Hoptimum and Hopslam just didn't do if for me either and that is with multiple bottles and years

totally agree and it tastes like a cheap well whiskey and the stout is extremely thin

i agree and disagree at the same time here, you are correct but a lot of times in life 'wanting' outweighs 'having'... the 2011 Abyss I aged 3 & 1/2 years was the best beer I've ever had and I'm sure a bit of that had to do with the waiting aspect (this coming from a total 'instant gratification' personality type )

This seems to be the way most people feel, but I agree that any overly hyped beer will never live up to expectations. I try not to follow the hype or read too much into these highly rated beers.

The last over-hyped beer I had was Pliny the Younger...I had read all over about how it was the all time greatest beer and the limited distribution only added to it; when I finally tried it, I thought it was good. Nothing spectacular by any means, but it was a good beer that could benefit with a little less hype.

I think I've lucked out on every bottle of Fantome I've ever bought. Haven't bought one in years though :/

Pliny the Elder. It was OK. I know the bottle was decently fresh (for being brought out to Illinois) and I didn't taste anything off. It just was an IPA, nothing crazy nothing bad either. That's when you know its all about the hype and freshness. Just like Zombie Dust out here, it's hardly the best citra pale ale but since its such a limited amount each batch and sells out instantly everyone gets to have it super fresh! Most citrus hopped beers are GREAT fresh.

Mine has to be Anchorage A Deal with the Devil , ADWTD , batch 2. I was super excited to try this and ended up having a hard time finishing a glass. Was really sweet and had a weird apple taste, not my style I guess...

Hill Farmstead a letdown? I'm not a fan of Shaun Hill or the crowds he attracts to his middle of nowhere brewery, but he makes some truly great beers for certain.

Sweet is not a word I associate with Heady Topper. Bitter hop bomb yes: sweet no. I can buy it all week long but I don't bother unless my friends want in in their box. Alchemist Focal Banger IPA, well that's a different story.

Thats pretty harshly stated, a lot of people agree with you too. Which may mean that you or some might have or had bottles, which I will gladly take or trade for if you don't want them. Lol dont let go to waste!
