I have been holding on to a Hunahpu that I got in a trade to age it out a bit. I have read mixed reviews on aging this beer. Does it truly hold up over time, or is this a beer that should be enjoyed fresh?

I have only been trading beer for a short time, and cellaring beers for even less time. I have had the DB Huna and the regular Huna from this year, but if some of the flavors are falling off, I would rather drink this awesome beer when it is at it's peak... Let me know what y'all think!

I've only had it a few times but seemed to like it best with about 9 months on it compared to fresh and a year and a half of age.

I am sure opinions vary on this, but in my opinion fresher is generally better with Hunahpu. Not that it falls off fast or anything, but it always seems a bit more vibrant fresh.

It tastes like a world class stout fresh and a world class stout aged. You can't go wrong with Huna.

agreed.. I've only had it fresh and it was amazing. but im sure some age on it would change the flavour profile a bit, and it'd still be amazing

I had a 2011 Hunahpu this past weekend at a bottle share and it was amazing. Definitely a little more mellow flavor profile, but fantastic and smooth. More spice than I expected to be there, but hated to get to the bottom of that bottle!

From a few guys that have had it year after year they say to drink it fresh as some of the flavors start to fade.I.had it a few months old and it was very good favors were still intact and heat was balanced I wouldn't age it but I enjoy the heat from beers

The 2011 might have been the best year & the one that's aged the best to date. Just amazing.

We opened a 2014 and I thought it was way too green. Even the Double Barrel Huna seemed off to me and not as enjoyable. I plan on leaving them in the cellar for about two years before opening another.

If you have never had a Huna, my personal suggestion would be drinking soon the one you received via trade.
I've read plenty of posts saying that the vanilla and spice notes tend to fade with age. I personally haven't had a Huna with more than a year, but in the near future I will be doing a 3 year vertical.
