CCB added a vintage list in the tasting room in December, with similar concept and prices. And they've had a lot of success selling the bottles at those price points.

I have a hard time believing they will do this, knowing the type of problem it will cause. Maybe a few years ago when brand didn't matter, since there were more limited options. I think CCB has to continue to make the festival better and more well run each year. Its a huge revenue stream for them and as we are seeing Huna by itself isn't generating the desire to sell out as it used to. So having a good festival is important to continue to have people want to attend vs. other beer festivals.

I just hope that this years batch of Huna is better than the last couple. That in itself would be great.

One of our local breweries does this and they've caught shit for it for years from a certain group.

I always thought it was cool to be able to have access to certain beers that might otherwise only be reserved for special events, albeit at a higher cost.

Last time I was in the tasting room, I struck up a convo with a family visiting CCB from Oklahoma about my El Cat bottles that I was picking up. They were asking me for recommendations from the vintage bottle list and were excited for the opportunity to try them and more than willing to pay the premium to do so. When I left they were on their 3rd bottle from the list and had their eye on a 4th.

This!!! Last year it seemed that over half the breweries had closed up shop by 1pm.

Is it really though in the grand scheme of things? If you take out the bottle revenue, which they would make regardless of having the festival, it's what, 4,000 tickets at $100 each, so $400k? Out of which they have to pay for the beer, facility, staff, hire security, etc. At the end of the day, I really doubt the profit is more than a drop in the bucket for them compared with the thousands of cases of beer they are sending out to every Publix and liquor store in the state every week.

I would actually be concerned that if this doesn't sell out or doesn't go well for some other reason, they just give up on doing the festival. They could easily sell Huna out of the brewery in a couple of days, or even give up a percentage and send it to distro. I just don't see a ton of upside for CCB now that their brand is well established and they really don't need the festival hype.

Fair point, if they could sell the same amount of Huna through the brewery, you're right maybe they'd make more money as people would certainly stop in and but beer to cover the revenue they get off the festival. Would be a huge mess, but technically might more lucrative.

Yeah, no different than a bottle of wine at dinner. I have no problem with CCB doing it. Certainly provides opportunity for people like this where there was none before. And if they sold it cheaper it'd all be gone.

Yessir. I hear all the time that Disney tickets are way too expensive. But they continue to sell out a whole bunch of the time. If the prices were to be cut in half, you couldn't get within 100 miles of the parks. But they take the profit, and do bigger and better things, (most of the time). I wouldn't/couldn't afford a lot of what CCB offers, but bully to those who will/can. If Hunahpu doesn't come up to standards, demand drops. People fall over themselves to join ECC, me included. Free market forces beautifully at work.

I think the vintage list is great. Some of the prices seem above secondary. My buddies and I said that is DBH1 was listed at $200 we would each put in money to drink that glorious nectar once again. It is all about perceived value.

Yeah it was inconsistent. But it was hard to tell at times what was on for your line as well.

They did separate the lines when they tapped the better stuff like hunapoopoo and xquic, and ab Zhukov

Just heard today that Coppertail will not be allowing the giant bottle shares during beer week this year, Interested to where people will relocate since this seemed to be a popular location in the past.

The special trappings were great from Ccb but because they happened so late in the day when a lot of other breweries closed up shop, the crowds were massive. If ABVZ was tapped when some of the big beers were still around, it would have spread the crowd even better. The other thing they should consider is tapping special stuff at each end of the park. So it splits the crowd some and people have to make a choice.

There are almost no breweries allowing bottle shares during tbbw. Ccb, coppertail, ac, and many more have said no outside bottles.

And I understand why. People left a mess, didn't tip and didn't buy beer from the bar.

In fairness, CCB didn't have an issue with us brining in a few beers to share with folks while we drank from their taps after the fest they evening.

Home Depot however did have an issue with us test driving their tractors and backhoes.

Coppertail allowed it last year too, but not this time. That's straight from the mouths of the tasting room managers.
