I definitely second that. No matter how a beer release is organized there are always going to be a select few who disagree with the management. Overall I thought it was executed extremely well, especially for the amount of people in attendance! Will be curious to see what happens in the coming years

Very well organized, I would say. The handout with the map and the tap listings/locations was perfect. Excellent variety of food choices available.

Compare this event to all the negative comments about the KBS release. Looks like there is only one real complaint about the Hunapu event, and that was from somebody who showed up an hour or two after the gates opened.

Five of us came down from Philly and picked up our sixth in South Carolina. For two of the guys this was their first beer release ever. They asked me if they were all like this one and I had to say unfortunately not. Had a great time with not much waiting in line for that amount of people.

    Some of my highlights were:

    Funky Buddha Last Snow Porter
    Oak Aged Dark Lord
    Palm Ridge Hunahpu
    Blueberry Muffin
    Hunahpu

I am already thinking about next year (flying that time). Thanks to all of the great people who I was able to meet up with and hang out with.

Once again the guys at CCB put on an amazing beer release. We showed up at 10:45, got bracelets and were in the gate in about five minutes. The lines for tickets were a bit long at first but everything was clearly marked and well organized. So many amazing beers that it's hard to pick favorites. The Dirac/Bohr blend aged in Palm Ridge barrels, Stranahan's Hunahpu's, Wakefield Berliners, Cookies and Milk, etc. were all great but my favorites were the Campeador, Last Snow and Oak Aged Dark Lord. Also, the cucumber saison was a bit of a sleeper. Wasn't expecting much but loved it. I also got to try FFF Arctic Panzer Wolf for the first time and absolutely loved it.

I had such a great time and met a lot of really cool people. I was focusing mostly on the drafts so didn't get too into the bottle share. Our small group opened some nice beers but with all of the great beers on tap it was hard to stay away. Can't wait until next year!

I do not understand how you are complaining about the wrist band situation but still ended up with bottles to trade. Maybe I am wrong, but I am guessing you likely did not wait in line for 2.5 hours like those of us who put in the effort to be able to get extras at 7:30.

Sorry that you had a bad time. I think there were about 5000 or so of us that had a blast.

All-around great event! I don't really understand how anyone could say it wasn't organized -the taplist/schedule/map was sa-weet!

I'll be down at cigar city this weekend unfortunately i missed this release. Anyone pick up some extras they would be willing to sell or trade me this saturday. If so send me a message and we can work something out. Looking for at least one.

It was a great release. The organization and scope were so far beyond last year's, but the crowd was beyond what anyone expected. Things had plenty of chances to get ugly, but for the most part all was fine. To put it in perspective, at Hunahpu's 2011 the Brandy Barrel and Bourbon Barrel Zhukov lasted most of (if not all of) the day, and you could get it with no line. This year? That stuff would've been gone in 15 minutes, at most.

I think the CCB guys are smart enough to realize that moving forward they need to find a bigger venue (and more beer!) for this event. I'm looking forward to seeing how far this event can grow (if I'm lucky enough to make it down again next year).

I will echo the feelings of most that this release was exceptional.
Met a bunch of great BAs at Peg's the night prior and at the CCB unsanctioned tasting on Friday night.
Waited in line for the bracelets and met a bunch more awesome BAs. Inside had a nice spot set up where we all traded beers and brought back sample pours for others to enjoy.
    About the beer lines.
It was easy to hang in line for brew while drinking either a CCB tap pour or a shared bottle, passing the time enjoying the beer conversation or planning the next beer to open or line to start.
    About the water and bathrooms:
Everyone in our group brought water. Not only is it FLA, but you should be drinking water between beers. Common sense. Hydrate. The Portojohns at the entrance were never busy. Not going to talk about conditions inside, but I hope nobody expected anything else.
We had a hotel close and went back around 4PM for an hour of sleep and/or swimming, then headed back to get in line for our case.
We saw many CCB employees throughout the fest and all the volunteers were excellent.
Overall I met BAs from all over the country and was fortunate to meet in person a couple of excellent traders and make future contacts too.
I would suggest a larger venue for next year or maybe some shade tents. Considering the scope, increased numbers from last year and awesome tap list, next year I'd expect this to be THE event.
Favorite brew was the rum Hunahpu and the RareR D.O.S. from Peg's on Friday.
    Cheers!

That guy is a douche, plain and simple. Stupid people that don't ask questions will always complain the next day. If I didn't know what a line was for...I asked someone. If you didn't get a Hunahpu bracelet then you don't get the beers. How is this complicated?
I had a fantastic time. Met some fabulous people, drank some great beers, drank plenty of water from the (provided) water stations. That's another point on this guy. If you were dumb enough to stand around in the sun all day without bringing your own water then it is still your fault not CCB.

Rum BA Hunahpu was the best for me! Batch 100 was awesome too.
Peg's was a blast Fri night! I wish I got to meet you. Next time...

Came down from Chicago for the event and have become a Cigar City convert in the process. Pretty well run event, great beer from the taps and relatively cool people coming out as well. Seriously one of the most fun releases I've been to.

Not only that, there were at least 3 water coolers that were set up, because I drank from one all day, and even changed the bottle because they put full bottles behind it.

There were maps, and even if you didn't get a band, he could have come at 7, lined up and gotten up to 12.

Calm down you sensitive little man!

I've been to Dark Lord Day and a few other brewery events around and I have to say this was probably the best I've been to. I came down from Chicago, hung with friends, traded beer, tasted new beers and it was all great.

I can't think of one negative. I will probably be coming back next year.

I think the event overall was a huge success, I agree that they need to move it to a new venue next year since it will only be that much bigger next year. I thought the Last Snow porter was good, and all of the Hunah variations, Pineapple Blonde. I had a good time serving everybody off of that back trailer, and it was good to see and hear the feedback from all of my Berliners that I had on tap for the event.

I am now haunted by Miami Madness-the nose, the complexity, the balance...an insanely great beer that I will remember for a very long time. Cheers to you!
