I was just wondering how people have found Hunahpu's evolves over time and if the percieved trade value dips after time. I see the more recent batches going for a fair amount in the trade market but no one seems to be looking for the other batches.

Any idea as to why? Does this beer not age well? Please share your thoughts especially if you have cracked a 3 year verticle recently or have traded an older bottle.

I opened a 2011 just a couple of weeks ago and I didn't care for it much. The biggest flavor I got from the additions to the base beer was cinammon of all things. Most everything else seemed to have faded. I think Zhukov also ages horribly. Just my opinion, but I think Hunahpu is best consumed fresh.

Most people think Hunapuh is best fresh, myself included.

Fresh it was a top 10 beer ever.
Not fresh it was still good, but not as good.

The general consensus of folks is that the chiles/heat is what makes Hunahpus special, so you won't see much interest in older vintages, unlike most big stouts.

I like it with some age, to the point I don't open my bottles fresh anymore. I like it at the point where the chiles are still prominent, but have faded back enough to allow the base beer to breathe some fresh air.

I'm in the minority. I had the 2010 fresh and yes, it was delicious. I'm not the biggest fan of chile beers though. I just drank my only 2010 last week and it was amazing. Absolutely loved it. The chiles were gone, by the way.

Well, don't age them horizontal in a wine fridge. One of my bottles leaked. They need to wax top all of them.

Drank a '10 Marshal Zhukov about a month ago and thought it was fantastic. Never had it fresh though and never had Hunahpu's aged, but maybe this helps.

The guys at H.M.O.G. recently ought to be able to tell you about the vertical. From what I heard, 2011 was the best to them. I tried a 2010 about a year ago, and many 2011 and 2012 pours recently and thought the 2011 was the best as well of them all. The Chiles do fade, but I also like to taste the base beer more under the spices.

I tried '10 and '11 side by side approximately 6 months ago. The '11 still had some chile heat left with plenty of cinnamon and chocolate; super tasty. The '10 by comparison, was sad. Zero chile presence, cinnamon had faded out, the chocolate was muddled. '10 isn't bad, perse, but I wouldn't even trade locals for a bottle.
    TLDR: Do not age Hunahpu's.
