Eh, blame the brewery. If I went to a release, got there before everyone else, and they said I could buy more than what my expected allotment was, I'd probably do it. Don't know that I would buy a full case, but if the limit was 3 and they said I could buy 6? I'd buy 6. Gloating about it is immature and stupid, but how were the people at the front to know that the people who came later would end up not getting any? It's up to the brewery to manage the amount of beer being sold, not the customer.

I just want to dispell this rumor. I was at CCB the Sunday morning after Huna Day 13' as the doors were opening to meet a few friends. We were there for a few hours and unless the bottles were being sold in an extremely clandestine fashion no bottles were sold on Sunday.

I am definitely not saying he is at fault for buying what he was allowed to buy. He followed the rules and purchased what he was allowed. I'm just saying that, personally, I probably wouldn't go all Eddie Murphy and post pics online saying "I have some ice cream, and you don't have none"

all the sad/depressing/ridiculous aspects of this day aside, here's hoping they brew a beer in the future and name it "hunahpacalypse" or something along the lines of that. you know, to atone for the mistakes made and what the future holds!

There were cases the Sunday after HD 2013 in the tap room.

I was there for at least 2 hours at the opening. I was hungover but not blind. I suppose its possible they could have rolled out after I left but we inquired with the bartender and he assured us that the bottles had sold out the previous evening. Who knows...?

    ^^^^ THIS ^^^^

I enjoyed myself Saturday. It was a madhouse. I did wait in line for two hours to even get into the event. I did get limited samples. I still fucking enjoyed myself and am pissed that a bunch of jerks ruined the future of this event.

Now Hunahpu goes into Distro and we're paying marked up prices for it. So thanks a lot if you were one of those jerks.

Like the motto at Laserwolf says: "Yes Beer. No Jerks."

It'd be nice if CCB said a little more about the "enemy." At the moment, all I'm hearing is "we're kinda sorry, but not really. Greedy customers screwed this up, not us. We're taking our toys and going elsewhere."

Yeah those damn jerks...They didn't even bother scanning tickets correctly, setting up line ropes, hiring staff instead of using volunteers, following their own rules about coming early, or having adequate security for a huge event.
Damn jerks always ruining beerfests with their poor planning...we are talking about CCB here right?

Did CCB really release a statement saying Hunahpu day is done and its going into distro next year?

We're forgetting about a couple key players in this announcement: The City of Tampa, and Bill 1329.

If they're canceling the event, I'm betting it's most likely moreso because they are getting RAILED by the city, not the customers. They feel bad about letting customers down: refund money and serve free beer, promise to brew more Huna for the wristbanders. But if they're saying "Yeah, we can't do this again. Ever." I'd imagine it could have a lot to do with how they made all the changes to this year's event based on how last year went, and this one was even WORSE. People lined up blocking a roadway for half a mile or more? Someone could have been injured or killed by cars passing by (especially the lunatic woman blasting her horn and roaring by at 30mph because no one would get out of the way otherwise.) It was extremely hazardous - and then it got worse inside the gates. A near-riot? Yeah, forget it. Tampa isn't going to go for that again.

And I am absolutely dreading how much ammunition this gives 1329's backers. "SEE!?! SEE?! This is what happens when you let breweries put out their own beers rather than going through the tier system!" It's pretty crucial, how much ground may have been lost on that fight Saturday.

Exactly. They gave them the guns, ammo and showed them how to shoot them with this unfortunately. It's too rash of a decision in my opinion to never have a Hunahpu Day again. That's why I think it's more the City of Tampa then CCB themselves. Event planners, making it a private event, making it only 1,500 people at a different more enclosed location, etc, etc, etc. can be planned and made extremely better but they have obviously been push past that point. I would be happier to see it a private event for 500 - 1,000 people and each get 2-3 bottles and me missing out on Hunahpu then it hitting Distribution. Just make it smaller batches and an El Catador exclusive.

Seems to me like there is a lot of room for improving on the overall event. Like other breweries have done, just separate out the bottle release and the event.

This is a great move by CCB. I went last year, and it was ridiculous---I can't imagine how bad it was this time. Didn't see any fights last year though...just a lot of people.

It is sooooooooooo time-consuming and stressful to do any event where hundreds or thousands will show up, IMO, CCB should just end all of it (which they have just announced) and focus on what they do best: Brew awesome beer. If one is so inclined, they can drive to the tasting room, else buy it from the store. That puts everyone, good people and bad, on an the same playing field.

I do fear this will be used to give ammo to those advocating the barbaric piece of legislation making its way through the Florida House and Senate right now. Let's hope that dies a horrible death.

I was in the tasting room for an hour the day after in 2013 and there definitely Hunahpu bottles in the cooler when I walked in.

Is true that people were getting beat up? I heard a few different things. I heard threats of guns, people beating up line cutters.

Whatever the foul ups were with the set up and execution of this event, if any of that was going on all the blame can fall squarely on anyone who resorts to violence just to covet a beer. I don't care how badly an event is run.

this is easy to say and obviously you'd like to think you would never be involved in this stuff. but stuff happens, especially when

    - people have been drinking all day
    - the event is overly crowded
    - there are no organized lines to speak off
    - people start to cut the lines, people start light jostling to get 'position', which turns into pushing and shoving and see where I'm going?

IOW I doubt anyone thinks "I'm going to kick and punch someone to get my beer today" but circumstances can collide which makes otherwise sane people do crazy things
