why do you think every trader under the sun is trading THIER cellar for the Latest and greatest hyped up brew!!!!!!!!!!!
I've heard some really bad reviews about sr71 yet people are willing to give BA ABRAXAS+ For this beer! I can bet once they drink this beer they'll kick themselves in the ass for letting Go of thier prized brews!

Mostly because they want what they don't have/haven't had. If it's in their cellar they've probably already tasted it.

People don't go for the prized brews anymore. They go for what is rare. They could probably grab a Girardin 1882 Gueuze at a liquor store nearby... but they would rather seek out insert hyped sour here. It's really quite sad, but it's just how the times are now. In a blind taste test, I strongly believe 1882 would kick most sour beers' asses. Even some shelf goodies like 3F Gueuze or Kriek. But people don't want what they can easily get. Especially beer nerds! I fall a victim to this messed up situation frequently. Not much I can do about it. Anyone want some Blue Bbls?

I don't have a cellar so I don't fall victim to this. It's the Allure of rareness that people want to "tick" and brag to other Beer Nerds that they've had said rare beer. It is more of a Social Status versus actually enjoying the beer. Now I'm the first to run my face if I try a Rare/Hyped beer and finding it's no different than a shelfie in the same style.

There's a few hyped beers every week now. It's ridiculous. While Hopslam has had a reputation of being a great beer I think that's from the days when there were much less stellar IIPA's. Not that Hopslam is a bad beer but Dirt Wolf to me is definitely better and is available all over all year. Now I do think some hyped beers are worth it. Many of the BCBS variants are just excellent. But then BA Abduction come's out and people want Prop for it and the base Abduction is really just decent at best. But it's was hyped up by the market. It's not close to level of Prop. Yes Prop is HYPED but i think it garners it.

Having had SR71 at Hunahpus day yesterday. I say the hype is real. It's a damn tasty beer. Now that i have had i dont feel the need to trade for it.

I don't understand people giving up so much for BA stouts when you can get bcbs pretty easily. Having had assassin and bcbs I can for sure tell you I would not give up much for an assassin, while its good its not much better or any better than bourbon county. But when there are less than 1k bottles of something people just need to have it to have it, not to drink. I imagine most people trade a shit ton for these beers, sit on them for awhile, then they'll trade it away when a new hype beer takes over.

People need to keep in mind there's a certain amount of these iso's that are shill posts.

Don't believe everything you read, if it seems too good to be true.....Yada yada. "Closed" doesn't mean a trade actually happened

I agree with the first statement, but personally the second part is the exact opposite in my case. My "cellar" is at least 75% beers I have never had before.

To directly opine on the OP's question, hype drives hype drives hype... and we all perpetuate it in one way or another. Just by making this post you drew attention to SR-71...

Yeah I had SR71 at Huna day too and it was really really good, but to be honest there were several beers that were just as good there that have less hype behind them.

I agree that the trade game flavor of the month gets out of control... but it has been proven that the perceived value of something will impact your enjoyment of it.

I too got to try it at Huna Day, and I gave it a 4.63 weighted score, so obviously I thought it was a very high-quality beer, but as I noted in my short review:

"Amazing brew, insanely overhyped. Trade away your left arm if you want, but there are other barrel-aged stouts that are every bit as good as this and are much easier to obtain."

It's just plain foolishness to trade away the world for a beer like this.

I mean it's the same game in reverse what was being done for kiwi Herman. Before ANYONE had tried it, even ticket winners, there were threads created as to what it was going for. That to me takes hype to another level. And finally, w SR71 there has to be an understanding that kiss because it dominates the boards for a day, relatively, that's just a fleeting fad. Something like Huna, Prop, DBH, Assassin, DDG, West Ashley that is STILL frequently ISO after the test of time- that's when you know something is good.

The most overrated BA stout in a long time. I don't know many people who thought it was good. Probably because every one at Hunahpu's Day had Summation either before or after having this beer.

I actually think you can say the same about just about any beer. Meaning, there will be plenty of people who would drink it next to BCBS (blind) and shrug and debate which one is better. some will think it's the best thing ever though. so much subjectivity

What is the point of aging something that you have never had fresh? There is no reference. Is 75% of your cellar just there to have but never drink?

What is the point of drinking a new beer at all? There is no reference.
