He didn't say that they're a bad brewery. He just said that their offerings are sort of blending in with other beers on the shelf. Based on the responses here i'm not so sure that he's in the minority. We get a pretty solid Bells ditro here and I can't say that I disagree with him. They make good beer but so do a lot of other breweries.

I have also been very excited to see them come to new york but I am an Ithaca/Southern Tier girl and while I am enjoying what they have to offer I do not think they are going to replace southern tier or great lakes in my spending habits. It also disappoints me a bit to see they are cheaper than my own locals.

IMO I thought Hopslam was too much on the sweet side,PtE was way better by a longshot ,....even KDB Simtra was much better then Hopslam IMO .

I already know they are an extremely consistent brewery making high level, quality brews of many varieties. And you've already made my point. There are so many breweries making high level, quality brews of many varieties and Bell's is no better or worse than any of those I have been able to obtain for years.

My point was that hype can raise expectations, which in this case weren't met. I have had beers from other breweries that have been hyped and the beers have met those expectations, that's all.

I totally agree. Bells and specifically Hopslam are great examples IMO. Here in PA we have a bunch of local offerings that I think are better than Hopslam yet people are willing to rush to the store to pay $20 for a 4 pack of it. When it sells out in an hour it does not but reassure the store that they're capable of charging $5 for a bottle. Maybe even more next year? Nothing about that is good for the craft beer community.

So, are you now agreeing with me, in part at least?
